Juan de Canaveris (also known as Canaverys) was born in 1748 and passed away in 1822. He was an Italian lawyer and a politician. He worked as an accounting officer in the Tribunal de Cuentas in Buenos Aires. This was during the time when the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata was a Spanish colony.
Juan Canaveris became very important in the Viceroyalty. He supported the revolutionary movements in May 1810. These movements led to Argentina's independence. He was the only person of Italian background who attended the important meeting called the Open Cabildo on May 22, 1810.
He is also known as the founder of the Canavery family in Argentina. Many of his descendants became important people. They included military leaders, revolutionaries, lawyers, and politicians in Buenos Aires. Juan Canaveris had a long career in Buenos Aires. In 1798, he became a representative for the City Council of Santiago del Estero.

Early Life and Arrival in Río de la Plata
Juan Canaveris was born in Saluzzo, Piedmont, which was part of the Kingdom of Sardinia. He was born either in 1738 or 1748. His parents were Gabriel Canaveri and Margarita Jugluns. He later changed his original Italian name to the Spanish-sounding Canaveris.
Juan Canaveris arrived in the Río de la Plata region around 1770. This was during a time of big changes called the Bourbon Reforms in the Spanish Empire. He likely lived and studied in Genoa, Italy, before coming to South America.
Family Life in Buenos Aires
Juan Canaveris got married at the Cathedral of Buenos Aires on May 4, 1772. His wife was Catalina Bernarda de Esparza. She came from a noble family. Her parents were Juan Miguel de Esparza and María Eugenia Sánchez.
Canaveris and his wife lived in the San Nicolás neighborhood of Buenos Aires. They had a large family with twelve children. There were six boys and six girls.
