Early Coaching Successes
As a coach, Lorenzo helped Mallorca get promoted to the top division for the first time in 1960. He was inspired by another famous coach, Helenio Herrera. Lorenzo then coached San Lorenzo in Argentina in 1961. He also coached the Argentina national team in the 1962 FIFA World Cup.
Lorenzo then went back to Europe. He coached Lazio in Italy, helping them reach the top Italian league. He also coached AS Roma in 1964. He coached the Argentine team again for the 1966 FIFA World Cup. After that, he returned to Mallorca and then Lazio. In 1972, he won his first Argentine championship with San Lorenzo.

During his four years, Lorenzo and Boca Juniors won two local titles and three international titles. This included the Intercontinental Cup in 1977 (played in 1978).
Key Players in Lorenzo's Boca Juniors Team

In defense, Vicente Pernía and Alberto Tarantini played on the sides. Francisco Sá and Roberto Mouzo were strong central defenders.
In the middle of the field, new players like Jorge Ribolzi and Mario Zanabria joined experienced Boca players. These included Jorge Chino Benítez and Rubén Suñé. The attack relied on the speed of Ernesto Mastrángelo and Luis Darío Felman.
Later Coaching Years
After his great time with Boca, Lorenzo coached several other clubs. These included Racing Club, Argentinos Juniors, San Lorenzo, Vélez Sársfield, Atlanta, and Lazio. He returned to Boca Juniors in 1987 for a short time. After this, Lorenzo retired from coaching.
