Juan Garland facts for kids
Juan Garland, originally named John Garland, was an important Irish engineer who worked for the Spanish Empire in the 1700s. He was in charge of many big building projects in what was then called Colonial Chile. He was born in Ireland and sadly passed away in December 1775 on a ship called the Marina in the Caribbean Sea.
Garland's work helped shape many cities and important structures in Chile. He was known for his skills in designing and building things that lasted.

- New Concepción: After a huge tsunami hit Concepción in 1751, the city had to be moved. Juan Garland helped choose the new location and designed the layout of the new city in 1765. This shows how he helped rebuild after natural disasters.
