Juan IV Coloma was born around 1522. He was part of the important House of Coloma family. His father was Juan III Francisco Coloma. His mother was Catherina de Cardona. Juan IV married three times. His third wife was Isabela de Saa', a lady from the court of Portugal.

In 1577, a special royal order made him the 1st Count of Elda. He lived in the grand Elda Castle. He also held the title of 3rd Sieur of Elda. Before becoming a count, he was the Governor of Alicante Castle.
