The Judith Wright Arts Centre, often called The Judy, is a special place in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It's a hub for both visual arts (like paintings and sculptures) and performing arts (like plays, music, and dance). This exciting venue was opened as an arts centre in October 2001. It is named after Judith Wright, a well-known poet from Queensland who also championed Indigenous rights and protected the environment.
The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, manages The Judy. You can find it at the corner of Berwick Street and 420 Brunswick Street in Fortitude Valley.
What is The Judy?
The Judy is a lively place where many different art forms come to life. It has performance areas and three studios for dance, theatre, and music rehearsals. The main performance space is a flexible "black box" theatre. This means it can be set up in many ways for various types of shows.
The centre is made up of two buildings, one with two floors and another with five. The larger building used to be a factory for Bushell's Tea. Famous architects, Cox Architects, designed the renovation of the site. Multiplex Constructions built the new arts centre.
