Joyce Audrey Botterill (born April 27, 1939 – died September 3, 2015) was an English actress. She was known professionally as Judy Carne. Many people remember her for the famous phrase "Sock it to me!" from the TV show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In.

Judy Carne's Acting Career
Judy Carne was born in Northampton, England. Her parents, Harold and Kathy, ran a greengrocer shop. This is a store that sells fresh fruits and vegetables.
Judy trained at the Pitt-Draffen Academy of Dance. Later, she went to the Bush-Davis Theatrical School for Girls. An instructor at the school suggested she change her first name to "Judy." Her stage last name, Carne, came from a play character.
Early TV Roles in England and the US
Judy first appeared on British television in 1961. She was in the series Danger Man and the comedy show The Rag Trade.
Soon after, she moved to the United States. Her first regular role was in the sitcom Fair Exchange in 1963. She played an English teenager who moved to America. She also appeared in The Baileys of Balboa (1964). Later, she starred with Pete Duel in Love on a Rooftop (1966). She also made several guest appearances on the adventure series The Man from U.N.C.L.E..
Judy had many other guest roles on popular TV shows. These included Gidget (1965), 12 O'Clock High (1965), I Dream of Jeannie (1966), and Gunsmoke (1966). She was also in an episode of Bonanza (1963) and The Big Valley (1967).
She also acted in movies. Some of her film roles were in A Pair of Briefs (1962) and The Americanization of Emily (1964). Later films included All the Right Noises (1971) and What About Me (1993).
Becoming a Star on Laugh-In
Judy Carne became very famous on the TV show Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In. This show aired from 1968 to 1970. Her most popular moment was when she would say "Sock it to me!" After she said this, something funny would happen to her. She might get soaked with water or have something fall on her.
Judy was a regular cast member for the first two seasons. She later made guest appearances. In 1968, a music album from the show was released. Judy also released a song called "Sock It To Me" in 1969.
Broadway and Later Appearances
In 1970, Judy starred in a musical called The Boy Friend on Broadway. The show ran for 111 performances.
In 1993, Judy attended the 25th anniversary of Laugh-In. She also appeared on a Laugh-In Christmas TV special.
Judy Carne's Personal Life and Death
Judy Carne was married twice. She was married to actor Burt Reynolds from 1963 to 1965. She was also married to producer Robert Bergmann from 1970 to 1971. Both marriages ended in divorce.
In the 1980s, Judy moved back to Northamptonshire, England. She lived a quiet life in the village of Pitsford.
Judy Carne passed away on September 3, 2015, in a hospital in Northampton. She died from pneumonia.
