Jukka Antero Nevalainen (born April 21, 1978) is a talented Finnish musician. He is best known as the former drummer for the famous symphonic metal band Nightwish. Jukka was a key part of Nightwish for many years, helping to create their unique sound.

Jukka's Early Life and Music

Jukka grew up in a town called Kitee, in Finland. When he was young, his music teacher noticed his talent. The teacher suggested Jukka try drumming as part of a new music program at school. Jukka didn't have a perfect place to practice at home, but he made it work!

His very first band was called "The Highway." Later, when he was about 15 or 16, he joined his first "real" band. This band had a practice space, but they could only use it a few days a week. After leaving that group, Jukka teamed up with Emppu Vuorinen. Together, they found a permanent place to practice their music. Before Nightwish, Jukka and Emppu played in bands named Ambrosia and Nidhro't.

Jukka lives with his wife, Satu, and their three children. Their daughter Luna was born in 2003, their son Niki in 2005, and their second daughter Lara in 2010. They live in Joensuu, Finland.

Jukka's Music Career

After the early days of Nightwish, Jukka got a brand new, professional drum kit. He used this special kit for many years, starting with the album Wishmaster and continuing through the Once world tour in 2005. Jukka was supported by well-known music companies like Tama Drums (for drums), Paiste (for cymbals), and Pro-Mark (for drumsticks).

Jukka was also part of a side project band called Sethian. This band is not active anymore because its members are busy with other music groups.

Taking a Break from Nightwish

On August 6, 2014, it was announced that Jukka would not be able to play drums for Nightwish's eighth album or its tour. This was because he was dealing with insomnia, which made it hard for him to sleep and perform. Because of this, the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful was the first Nightwish album without Jukka playing drums.

Even though he wasn't playing, Jukka still helped the band by managing their daily activities behind the scenes. Another drummer named Kai Hahto from the band Wintersun took Jukka's place for the album and the tour. Jukka did return to play one song during a special concert in August 2016. This concert celebrated Nightwish's 20th anniversary in Himos Park, Finland.

In July 2019, Jukka shared that he would not be returning as Nightwish's full-time drummer. He explained that he would continue to work with the band behind the scenes. At that time, Kai Hahto officially became the band's new permanent drummer.
