Julie Blanchette (born January 9, 1977, in Montreal, Quebec) is a super talented Canadian ringette player. She has also worked as a trainer and coach. Julie was even the captain for many ringette teams, including Team Canada!

She plays for the Montreal Mission in the National Ringette League. Julie has been a part of the Canadian national ringette team as both a player and a coach.

Julie Blanchette was an assistant coach for the 2022 Team Canada Seniors. They played in the 2022 World Ringette Championships. She will be the Head Coach for Canada's Senior National Team at the 2023 World Ringette Championships. This is part of a special program made just for that tournament.

Julie's Ringette Journey

Julie Blanchette started playing ringette when she was only four years old. Her brother played ice hockey, and her parents wanted to find a team sport for her. They signed her up with a local ringette club in Montreal.

She played ringette at every amateur level in Montreal. She also represented Quebec as part of Team Quebec. She played for them in the Canadian Ringette Championships and the Canada Winter Games.

Playing in Elite Leagues

Julie played in Canada's top semi-professional ringette league, the National Ringette League (NRL). She joined the Montreal Mission in 2003.

In 2005, she even played a season in Finland! She joined the club Ringette Turku in Finland's elite ringette league, called SM Ringette.

Playing for Team Canada

Julie was a member of the Canadian national ringette team many times. Her first time was as a player for the 2004 national team. She competed in the 2004 World Ringette Championships in Stockholm.

She joined Team Canada again for the 2007 Canadian national ringette team. They played in the 2007 World Ringette Championships in Ottawa.

Her last time playing for Team Canada was in 2010. She competed with the 2010 Canadian senior team in the 2010 World Ringette Championships in Tampere. In 2008, she also played in the 2008 Ringette World Club Championships.

Captain and Coach

Julie Blanchette was the team captain for the Canadian national ringette team. She was also the captain of the Montreal Mission in the National Ringette League.

She has also worked as a ringette trainer and coach. She was the trainer for the national Team Canada juniors (players under 19 years old). This was during the World Junior Ringette Championships (U19) of 2009 in Prague.

In September 2013, Julie became an assistant coach for Canada's 2013 Senior National Team. They competed in the 2013 World Ringette Championships.

Even though women's hockey became very popular, these women say ringette is still their first love.

"Ringette has been a life-long passion for me, ever since I was four years old. I don't see myself playing any other sport with this much passion, determination and commitment," said Blanchette.

  • She was chosen for the All-Star team during the 2005 Canadian Ringette Championships in Winnipeg.
  • She was voted MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the 2005-06 and 2008-09 seasons in the National Ringette League.
