Julie Bowen (born Julie Bowen Luetkemeyer on March 3, 1970) is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Claire Dunphy in the TV show Modern Family. This show aired from 2009 to 2020. For her work on Modern Family, she won two Primetime Emmy Awards. These awards were for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011 and 2012.
Julie Bowen also starred in other popular TV series. These include ER (1998–1999), Ed (2000–2004), and Boston Legal (2005–2007). She also had a recurring role in Lost (2005–2007). She has appeared in many films too. Some of these are Happy Gilmore (1996), Horrible Bosses (2011), and The Fallout (2021).

Julie Bowen was born in Baltimore, Maryland. Her parents are Suzanne and John Alexander Luetkemeyer Jr. She has two sisters, Annie and Molly. Annie is a specialist in infectious diseases. Molly is a designer. Julie grew up in Ruxton-Riderwood, Maryland.
Her Education
Julie went to several schools as a child. She attended Calvert School, Garrison Forest School, and Roland Park Country School. She also went to St. George's School in Rhode Island. Later, she studied at Brown University. Her main subject was Italian Renaissance studies. She spent a year studying in Florence, Italy. While in college, she acted in plays like Guys and Dolls. She also had a main role in an independent film called Five Spot Jewel. Julie also studied acting at the Actor's Institute.

Julie Bowen married Scott Phillips in 2004. They had three sons together. Their first son was born in 2007. Twin sons were born in 2009. Julie was pregnant with her twins when she filmed the pilot episode of Modern Family. Julie and Scott separated and their divorce was finalized in 2018.
Her Acting Career

Julie Bowen started her acting career in the early 1990s. She had a role in the soap opera Loving in 1992. She also appeared in an episode of Class of '96. In 1994, she played the main role in the TV movie Runaway Daughters.
Early Roles in TV and Movies
In 1996, Julie played the love interest in the movie Happy Gilmore. She also appeared in Multiplicity (1996) and An American Werewolf in Paris (1997). She had guest roles in TV shows like Party of Five and Strange Luck. She also played Aunt Gwen in Dawson's Creek in 1999.
Julie had a recurring role on ER from 1998 to 1999. She became more well-known for her role as Carol Vessey. Carol was a high school English teacher in the TV series Ed (2000–2004). She then appeared in five episodes of Lost (2005–2007). She also played lawyer Denise Bauer on Boston Legal (2005–2008). She had a recurring role on Weeds in 2008.

From 2009 to 2020, Julie Bowen starred as Claire Dunphy in the ABC sitcom Modern Family.
