Tyler Gerald Burrell (born August 22, 1967) is an American actor. He is best known for playing Phil Dunphy on the TV show Modern Family. This role earned him two Emmy Awards.
Ty Burrell has also starred in other TV shows like Out of Practice and Back to You. He has appeared in movies such as Evolution and Black Hawk Down. He also played Doc Samson in The Incredible Hulk. You might also know his voice from animated films like Mr. Peabody & Sherman, Finding Dory, and Storks. He even performed on Broadway in the play Macbeth.

Early Life and Education
Ty Burrell was born in Grants Pass, Oregon, on August 22, 1967. His mother, Sheri Rose, was a teacher. His father, Gary Gerald Burrell, was a family therapist. Ty has a younger brother named Duncan. He grew up in Applegate, Oregon, which is close to the California border.
He went to Hidden Valley High School. There, he played football as a lineman. After high school, he attended the University of Oregon. He later went to Southern Oregon University in Ashland. He graduated in 1993 with a degree in theatre arts.
Ty continued his studies at Penn State University. He earned a Master of Fine Arts degree there. For a while during graduate school, he lived in his van to save money. He also worked as an actor at the Utah Shakespeare Festival.
Acting Career Highlights
Ty Burrell's first movie roles were in 2001. He appeared in Evolution and Black Hawk Down. He also acted in the 2004 movie Dawn of the Dead.
He performed in many stage plays. These included a Broadway show of Macbeth in 2000. He also acted in and helped write an off-Broadway play called Babble with his brother.
Later, Ty was cast in the TV show Out of Practice (2005–2006). He played Oliver Barnes, a plastic surgeon. After that, he appeared in movies like Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus and Friends with Money.

Ty Burrell became very famous for his lead role as Phil Dunphy. Phil is a Realtor in the TV show Modern Family. This show was created by Christopher Lloyd and Steve Levitan.
For his acting in Modern Family, Ty was nominated for eight Primetime Emmy Awards. He won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series twice. He won in 2011 and again in 2014.
He also won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series in 2014. He shared the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series with his co-stars multiple times.

Ty Burrell owns a restaurant in Park City, Utah, called The Eating Establishment. He also owns two bars in Salt Lake City called Bar X and Beer Bar.
During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, bars and restaurants closed. Ty and his wife, Holly, used $100,000 of their own money. They created a fund called Tip Your Server. This fund helped restaurant workers in Utah who were out of work.
Personal Life
Ty Burrell married his wife, Holly, on August 18, 2000. They used to live in New York City. In 2008, they moved to Salt Lake City. They still own an apartment in New York.
In March 2010, Ty announced that they had adopted a baby girl. Two years later, they adopted another girl.
Ty Burrell is a big fan of several sports teams. These include the Oregon Ducks, the Portland Trail Blazers, the New York Mets, and the Los Angeles Rams.
