Julie Gichuru's Education Journey
Julie Gichuru started her schooling at St. Christophers School in Nairobi when she was eight. Later, she attended Green Herald in Bangladesh. She then returned to Kenya and went to Karen C School before moving to Loreto Convent Msongari. In her second year of high school, she switched from the 8-4-4 system to a GCE boarding school. She finished her high school studies at Imani School in Thika. Julie holds a law degree and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from universities in Wales.
Julie Gichuru's Career in Media
Julie Gichuru began her career at Capital FM, a radio station. She then moved to television, working as a reporter and news anchor at Kenya Television Network (KTN). She was part of the Kenyan investigative TV series The Inside Story on KTN.
Later, Julie worked at NTV (Kenya), where she hosted shows about politics and current events. These included programs like Showdown, On the Spot, You The Jury, and The People's Voice. She also anchored the news program Sunday Live at Citizen TV. Julie was involved in peace and reconciliation programs, such as Fist to Five and the post-election special Voices of Reason.
Through her company, ARIMUS Media Limited, Julie Gichuru now helps create African content. This includes shows like Africa Leadership Dialogues and Great Debaters Contest, which is a debate platform for high school students. She also oversees the entertainment series Maisha and a TV production called Fatuma's Voice social Forum. Julie and her husband, Anthony Gichuru, also started the Footprints Africa Foundation (FAF).
Awards and Recognition
Julie Gichuru has received several important awards for her work. She was given the Martin Luther King Salute to Greatness Award. In both 2017 and 2019, New African magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential Africans. Avance Media also listed her as one of the 100 Most Influential African Women in 2019. In 2010, the World Economic Forum recognized her as a Young Global Leader.
