Hans-Josef "Jupp" Kapellmann is a former professional footballer from West Germany. He was born on December 19, 1949, in Bardenberg. Jupp played as a defender or midfielder during his career. He was known for his strong performances on the field.

Jupp Kapellmann's Club Career

Early Days at Alemannia Aachen

Jupp Kapellmann started his professional football journey with Alemannia Aachen. This team had just been promoted to the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top football league. In the 1968–69 season, his team finished as runner-up.

Moving to 1. FC Köln

After one year, Kapellmann left Aachen. His team was relegated from the Bundesliga, meaning they moved down to a lower league. He then joined 1. FC Köln in 1970. Jupp became a regular player in the midfield for Köln. In his final season with them, 1972–73, the team finished second in both the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Success with Bayern Munich

Because of his great playing, FC Bayern Munich signed Kapellmann in 1973. They paid a record amount of 802,000 Deutsche Mark for him. At Bayern, Jupp was mainly used as a defender. He became a key part of the team that won the European Cup three times in a row. These wins were in 1973–74, 1974–75, and 1975–76.

He also helped Die Bayern win the Bundesliga title in 1973–74. In 1976, they won the Intercontinental Cup. This was a big achievement for the club.

Final Years at 1860 Munich

After his successful time at Bayern, Jupp Kapellmann joined TSV 1860 Munich in 1979. This team was a local rival to Bayern. He played his last 40 Bundesliga matches there over two seasons. In total, he played 338 Bundesliga matches and scored 36 goals.

International Appearances

Jupp Kapellmann also played for the West Germany national team. He appeared in five games between 1973 and 1974. Even though he played for the national team, he couldn't secure a regular spot. In 1974, he was part of the FIFA World Cup squad. West Germany hosted the tournament that year. Jupp watched his team win the trophy from the bench.

Life After Football

After he stopped playing football, Jupp Kapellmann became a doctor. He specialized in Orthopedic surgery. He lives and works in the Bavarian town of Rosenheim.
