Justin is a city located in Denton County, Texas, in the United States. In 2020, about 4,409 people lived there. It is considered a suburb of Fort Worth.

A Look Back: Justin's History

In 1848, a group of about 70 people from France arrived in this area. They were followers of Étienne Cabet, who believed in creating perfect communities called "utopias." They tried to start an Icarian community here, but it didn't work out.

The town of Justin is not named after the famous Justin Boot Company, which is a common misunderstanding. In January 1887, the community asked for a post office. They decided to name it Justin to honor Justin Sherman, who was a chief engineer for the Santa Fe Railroad.

Justin was once known for its "salvage companies." These businesses would buy items from places that had been damaged by fires or tornadoes. Then, they would sell these items at lower prices. In the late 1970s, clothing and accessories inspired by the American West became very popular. One family's salvage business started to focus on selling these "Western wear" items. Eventually, the other large salvage businesses closed, and this industry faded away in Justin.

The Texas Motor Speedway used to have a Justin mailing address. However, the speedway is actually located within the city of Fort Worth. On July 9, 2005, the United States Postal Service changed the speedway's mailing address to Fort Worth. Justin had the chance to buy the speedway, but at the time, the city did not have enough money to manage and maintain it.

Since January 25, 1995, a powerful weather radar has been operating out of Justin. This radar belongs to WFAA-TV, Channel 8, and helps forecast weather.
