Justin Donta Brownlee (born April 23, 1988) is an American basketball player. He is now a naturalized Filipino citizen. He plays professionally for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Before turning pro, he played college basketball for the St. John's Red Storm.
After college, Justin played in the NBA Development League for teams like the Maine Red Claws and Erie BayHawks. In 2016, he joined Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA. He has won six PBA championships with them. He also won the ASEAN Basketball League championship in 2018 with San Miguel Alab Pilipinas. Justin has played in many other countries, including Mexico, Italy, France, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates. In 2024, he also won the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) championship.
In 2023, Justin became a Filipino citizen. This allowed him to play for the Philippines national basketball team. He helped the team win gold medals at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games and the 2022 Asian Games.

Justin Brownlee's College Basketball Journey
Justin Brownlee played college basketball at St. John's University. He was part of the team from 2009 to 2011.
Justin Brownlee's Professional Basketball Career
Early Days in the NBA Development League
After the 2011 NBA draft, Justin Brownlee started his professional career. He joined the Maine Red Claws in the NBA Development League.
In 2012 and 2013, Justin also spent time with the New York Knicks. He joined them for the 2012 NBA Summer League and trained with the team. He also played in the 2013 NBA Summer League.
Later, in November 2013, he played for the Erie Bayhawks. He averaged about 13.85 points and 5.7 rebounds per game there.
Becoming a Star with Barangay Ginebra (2016–2018)
Justin Brownlee first joined Ginebra in 2016. In his very first game, he scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
He quickly became a key player for Ginebra. He helped them win the PBA Governors' Cup in both 2016 and 2017. In the 2016 finals, he made a famous game-winning three-point shot at the buzzer!
Winning the ABL Championship with Alab Pilipinas
In 2018, Justin played for San Miguel Alab Pilipinas in the ASEAN Basketball League. He and his teammate Renaldo Balkman helped the team win the 2017–18 ABL season championship. They beat the Mono Vampire Basketball Club from Thailand in the finals.
More Championships with Barangay Ginebra (2018)
After his time in the ABL, Justin returned to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. He helped them turn their season around in the 2018 PBA Commissioner's Cup. He led Ginebra to the finals, averaging 27.4 points, 12 rebounds, and 6.6 assists per game.
He won his first Best Import Award and helped Ginebra win the Commissioner's Cup title. They won the series 4–2.
Playing for Mighty Sports and Al Riyadi
In 2019, Justin joined the Mighty Sports-Philippines team. He played in the Dubai International Basketball Tournament with former NBA player Lamar Odom.
Before returning to Ginebra, he also played for Al Riyadi in the Lebanese Basketball League. He helped them win the Lebanese League championship and the Lebanese Cup in 2019.
Dominating the PBA with Barangay Ginebra (2019–2020)
Justin came back to Ginebra for the 2019 PBA Commissioner's Cup. He scored a career-high 49 points in a game against the Magnolia Hotshots. Later, he broke that record again with 50 points in an overtime win!
He led his team to another championship in the 2019 Governor's Cup. They beat the Meralco Bolts in the finals.
Playing in the UAE and Returning to Ginebra (2021–2023)
Justin also played for Al Sharjah in the UAE National Basketball League, winning a championship there in 2020.
He then returned to Ginebra for the 2021 Governors' Cup. He continued to break records, becoming the first import to make 400 three-pointers in PBA history. He also passed many legendary imports on the all-time scoring list.
In 2022, he became the first PBA import to reach 300 steals. He also became the fifth import to score 5,000 career points. In January 2023, he won his third Best Import Award. On January 15, 2023, he won his sixth PBA championship with Ginebra. He is now tied for the most titles won by a PBA import!
For a short period, Justin was unable to play for Ginebra. This was due to an administrative decision by FIBA, the international basketball federation. He returned to play in 2024.
Winning in Indonesia and Back to Ginebra (2024–Present)
In 2024, Justin played for Pelita Jaya in the Indonesian Basketball League. He helped them win the 2024 IBL championship.
He then returned to Barangay Ginebra in August 2024 for the 2024 Governors' Cup. On August 27, 2024, he set a new career high with 51 points in a game against the San Miguel Beermen.
Justin Brownlee's National Team Career
Justin Brownlee wanted to become a Filipino citizen to play for the national team. In January 2023, President Bongbong Marcos signed a law making him a naturalized Filipino citizen. This meant he could play for the Philippine national basketball team.
He played his first game for the Philippines in February 2023. In May 2023, he led the Philippines to a gold medal at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games. He was a top player in points, rebounds, and assists.
Justin also played for the national team in the 2022 Asian Games. He helped the team win another gold medal!

Justin Brownlee has a twin sister, two other sisters, and a brother. He is also a father to four children.
