Justin Warren Dunn, born on September 22, 1995, is an American professional baseball pitcher. He currently plays for the Kansas City Royals organization. Before this, he played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds. Justin played college baseball at Boston College and was chosen by the New York Mets in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft.

Early Life and College Baseball
Justin Dunn was born in Freeport, New York. When he was 13, a baseball coach from The Gunnery, a boarding school in Washington, Connecticut, noticed him playing. Justin then moved from his family on Long Island to attend The Gunnery.
The Los Angeles Dodgers picked Justin in the 2013 MLB draft. However, he decided not to sign with them. Instead, he went to Boston College to play college baseball for the Boston College Eagles.
Playing for Boston College
As a freshman in 2014, Justin pitched for a short time. He had one win and one loss, with a 7.30 earned run average (ERA). He also struck out 12 batters.
In his second year, he played in 20 games. He became the team's closer (a pitcher who finishes games). He ended the year with four wins, four losses, and five saves. After the 2015 season, he played summer baseball for the Cotuit Kettleers.
Justin started his junior year as the closer again. But during the season, he moved into the starting rotation. He finished his junior year with a 2.06 ERA and a record of four wins and two losses.
Professional Baseball Career
Starting with the New York Mets
The New York Mets drafted Justin Dunn in the first round of the 2016 Major League Baseball draft. He was the 19th player chosen overall. He signed with the Mets and started playing for the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2016. He had one win and one loss with a 1.50 ERA.
In 2017, he played for the St. Lucie Mets. He had five wins and six losses with a 5.00 ERA. In 2018, he started with St. Lucie and later moved up to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Between these two teams, he had eight wins and eight losses with a 3.59 ERA.
Time with the Seattle Mariners
On December 3, 2018, the Mets traded Justin Dunn to the Seattle Mariners. He was part of a trade that involved several players. In 2019, he played for the Arkansas Travelers. He had nine wins and five losses with a 3.55 ERA. He was also chosen for the 2019 All-Star Futures Game.
The Mariners called Justin up to the major leagues on September 10, 2019. He made his first MLB appearance on September 12 against the Cincinnati Reds.
In 2020, he allowed 13 stolen bases, which was the most in the American League. On August 19, 2021, Justin was placed on the injured list because of a shoulder strain. This injury kept him out for the rest of the season.
Playing for the Cincinnati Reds
On March 14, 2022, the Mariners traded Justin Dunn to the Cincinnati Reds. He started his time with the Reds on the injured list due to the same shoulder issue from 2021. He was able to play again on July 24, and was sent to the Triple-A Louisville Bats. On August 8, he was called back up to the major leagues to start a game for the Reds against the New York Mets.
In March 2023, it was announced that Justin would need time off to recover from shoulder inflammation. He began a rehab assignment in August 2023 but had a setback. In September 2023, he had surgery on his right shoulder. He became a free agent in October 2023.
Recent Teams
On November 8, 2024, Justin signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. He played 10 games for the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. He had two wins and three losses with a 7.64 ERA. The White Sox released him on May 28, 2025.
On June 5, 2025, Justin Dunn signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals.

Justin Dunn is the older brother of Phoenix Suns basketball player Ryan Dunn.
