Justine Bateman (born February 19, 1966) is an American filmmaker, author, and former actress. She is well-known for her acting roles in TV shows like Family Ties, Men Behaving Badly, and Desperate Housewives. She also appeared in films such as Satisfaction and The TV Set.

Justine is also a talented filmmaker. She wrote and directed her first feature film, Violet, which was shown at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival. She also wrote, directed, and produced a short film called Five Minutes. This film premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival. Besides her work in film and TV, Justine is a successful author. She wrote the popular books Fame: The Hijacking of Reality (2018) and Face: One Square Foot of Skin (2021).

Early life

Justine Bateman was born on February 19, 1966, in Rye, New York. Her mother, Victoria Elizabeth, used to be a flight attendant. Her father is Kent Bateman. Justine has a younger brother, Jason Bateman, who is also a famous actor.

She went to Taft High School in Woodland Hills, California. While she was acting in Family Ties, her work schedule made it hard for her to attend college right away.

Career

Acting roles

Justine Bateman started her most famous acting role as a teenager. She played Mallory Keaton in the TV sitcom Family Ties. This show began in 1982 and ended in 1989. She also hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live in 1988.

In 1996, Justine starred in the American version of the British comedy Men Behaving Badly. She played Sarah, the girlfriend of Ron Eldard's character. She also appeared in the 2003 TV mini-series Out of Order.

In 2006, Justine appeared in an episode of Arrested Development. Her character was thought to be the sister of Michael Bluth, who was played by her real-life brother, Jason Bateman. She also had recurring roles in shows like Men in Trees, Still Standing, and Desperate Housewives.

In 1988, Justine starred in the movie Satisfaction. This film was about an all-girl music band. Other actors in the movie included Julia Roberts and Liam Neeson. Justine played the lead singer and sang on the movie's soundtrack. She also appeared in films like The Night We Never Met and The TV Set.

She produced the short films Z, Five Minutes, and Push. She also produced the feature film Violet. Her production company is called Section 5.

Director

Justine Bateman's first feature film as a director was Violet. It starred Olivia Munn and Justin Theroux. The film was shown at the SXSW 2021 film festival.

In 2001, Justine Bateman married Mark Fluent. They have two children together.

In 2016, Justine earned a degree in computer science and digital media management from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). During the film industry strikes in 2023, she spoke out against using AI for human characters. She has suggested a label to show when AI was not used for actors.

Justine Bateman is also a licensed pilot for single-engine planes. She is a certified scuba diver too. She believes in natural aging and has not had any cosmetic surgery.
