Life and Music Journey
Early Years and Start in Music
Justs Sirmais was born in Ķekava, Latvia. He went to Riga State Gymnasium No.1 for his studies. Before becoming a famous singer, Justs started his music career by playing as a street musician in the city of Riga. This helped him gain experience and connect with people through his music.
Eurovision Song Contest and Beyond
In 2016, Justs took part in a TV show called Supernova. This show helps Latvia choose its singer for the Eurovision Song Contest. Justs competed with a song called "Heartbeat". This song was written by Aminata Savadogo, who had represented Latvia in Eurovision the year before.
Justs did very well in Supernova. He won the first round with more than 40% of the public votes. He then made it through the semi-final and won the final on February 28. This meant he would represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 in Stockholm, Sweden.
At Eurovision, Justs performed "Heartbeat" and successfully made it through the semi-final. In the grand final, he finished in 15th place. This was Latvia's sixth best result ever in the contest!
After Eurovision, Justs released an EP (a mini-album) called To Be Heard on May 17, 2016. He also released a single called "Ko Tu Dari?" (which means "What Are You Doing?" in English) on May 23, 2016.
In 2018, Justs became a co-host for Supernova 2018. In April of the same year, he released his first full studio album, titled Here I Am.
Later in 2018, Justs shared that he would be studying Music Production at a university in Bristol, United Kingdom. In November 2020, he participated in the first season of Balss Maskā, which is Latvia's version of The Masked Singer. He performed as the "Sparrow" and finished in 3rd place.
Justs tried to represent Latvia at Eurovision again in 2023, entering Supernova with his song 'Strangers'. However, he was eliminated in the semi-final. He is set to participate in Supernova 2025 as a semi-finalist with his song "Fit Right."
