Maharaja Kalu Thapa Kshatri (Nepali: कालु थापा क्षत्री), also known as Kalu Thapa, was the very first King of the Takam State. This kingdom was also called the 4000 Parvat State. The Thapa family ruled Takam for about 300 years.
However, their rule ended when King Dimba Bam Malla defeated them. This led to the creation of the larger Parbat State. Kalu Thapa's family line is very important in Nepali history. For example, Yashodhara Thapa, one of his descendants, is an ancestor of the famous Bhimsen Thapa family and the great military leader Amar Singh Thapa.
The Story of His Ancestry
Some old family records, called genealogies, tell a special story about Kalu Thapa. They say he was the son of a mythical Kshatriya (a warrior class) named Vatsaraja. This story claims Vatsaraja was born from a holy fire ceremony called an Ashwamedha Yagya. His mother was Vasundhara Devi.
These stories also say that Vatsaraja was giant-sized. Because of this, he earned the title Abhaya Narsingh Maharaja. His son, Kalu Thapa, was then called Abhaya Narsingh Kumar. These records trace all members of the Bagale Thapa clan back to King Kalu Thapa Kshatri. They state he became king in a place called Kāndāmālikā in the year 1111 of the Saka Era.

His Children and Their Kingdoms
King Kalu Thapa had four sons. Each of them went on to rule a different part of his kingdom.
- Purnakhar Thapa (also known as Punyakar) became the ruler of the Pulachour Kingdom.
- Tarapati Thapa (also known as Tarasimha) took over the Takam Kingdom.
- Biru Thapa became the king of the Rukumkot Kingdom.
- Dharmaraj Thapa (also known as Yashodhar or Jashodhar) ruled the Jyamrukot (Jamarik) Kingdom.
Later on, all these separate kingdoms were conquered by King Dimba Bam Malla, who belonged to the Samalvanshi Thakuri family.
