Kamer Genç (born February 23, 1940 – died January 22, 2016) was a well-known Turkish politician. He served as a member in the Turkish Parliament for many years. He was first elected in 1987 and continued to serve until 2015. He represented different political parties and also ran as an independent candidate during his career.

Kamer Genç's Early Life and Education

Kamer Genç was born in 1940 in a village called Ramazanköy, located in Nazımiye, Tunceli Province. He grew up in an Alevi family. When he was young, he spent his summers helping his father, Ali Genç, with manual work in Istanbul.

He was a very good student. In 1960, he was accepted into the Financial School in Ankara. Later, he studied at Tunceli High School for a while before returning to the Financial School.

In 1966, he graduated from the Ankara Financial and Commercial Science Academy. This school is now part of Gazi University. After finishing his studies, he started an internship at the Ministry of Finance. He then became a tax official in Bingöl.

Becoming a Politician

In 1966, Kamer Genç was the only person to pass a difficult exam for the State Council. This is Turkey's highest court for administrative matters. He lived in Paris from 1974 to 1976. He worked as a judge and attorney for the State Council.

After a big change in government in 1980, he left the State Council. He was then elected to the Tunceli City Council.

In 1983, Genç decided to enter national politics. He wanted to run as an independent candidate from Tunceli. However, his application was not accepted. From 1983 to 1987, he worked as a public accountant.

Serving in Parliament

Kamer Genç was elected as a member of the Turkish Parliament for four terms. He first joined the Republican People's Party and was elected in 1987 and 1991. Later, he joined the True Path Party and was elected in 1995 and 1999.

He also served as the Deputy Speaker of the Turkish Parliament from 1993 to 1999, and again from 2001 to 2002. This means he helped lead the meetings of the parliament.

In the 2002 elections, he was not reelected. But in 2007, he ran as an independent candidate and won. On June 1, 2010, he rejoined the Republican People's Party. He was reelected with them in 2011. He continued to serve as a Member of Parliament until the 2015 elections.

Kamer Genç's Family Life

In 1966, Kamer Genç asked to marry Sevim Genç. He had known her since primary school and they studied together in Tunceli High School. They had two children, a son named Seçkin and a daughter named Seçil. Kamer Genç passed away in Istanbul in 2016.
