Kapampangan, also called Pampangan, is a very important language in the Philippines. It is one of the main languages spoken there. You'll hear it most often in the province of Pampanga. People also speak Kapampangan in many parts of Tarlac and Bataan.

What is Kapampangan?
Kapampangan is a language that belongs to a huge family of languages called Austronesian. This family includes languages spoken across Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and even Madagascar! Within this big family, Kapampangan is part of the Philippine group.
Where is Kapampangan Spoken?
Most people who speak Kapampangan live in the province of Pampanga in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines. But it's not just Pampanga! You can also find Kapampangan speakers in:
- Southern Tarlac
- Northeastern Bataan
- Western Bulacan
- Southwestern Nueva Ecija
- Southeastern parts of Zambales
These areas are all close to each other. This shows how the language has spread over time.
How Many People Speak Kapampangan?
About 2.4 million people speak Kapampangan. This number comes from a study done in 2010. That's a lot of people! It makes Kapampangan one of the most spoken languages in the Philippines. The government of the Philippines recognizes it as a regional language.
Writing the Kapampangan Language
Today, Kapampangan is usually written using the Latin alphabet. This is the same alphabet that English uses. There's a special version of it for Kapampangan called the Kapampangan alphabet.
But long ago, before the Spanish arrived, Kapampangan had its own unique writing system. It was called Kulitan. This ancient script is very interesting. It shows how rich the history of the Kapampangan language is.
