Karate Kommandos (also known as Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos) was a cool American cartoon show that first aired in 1986. It was a short series with only five episodes. The show was created by and starred the famous martial artist Chuck Norris as himself! It was made by a company called Ruby-Spears Enterprises. Sometimes, you could even catch reruns of the cartoon on TV channels like Boomerang and Adult Swim.

What is the Show About?

In Karate Kommandos, Chuck Norris plays a special agent for the United States government. He leads a super team of diverse warriors called the Karate Kommandos. Their main mission? To fight against a really bad organization called VULTURE. This evil group is led by a villain named the Claw and his sneaky helper, Super Ninja.

The Villains: VULTURE

VULTURE is an evil group that wants to take over the world. We never find out what VULTURE stands for!

    • The Claw is the main bad guy and leader of VULTURE.
    • He has a metal claw instead of a right arm.
    • He often shows his claw when telling his team to "Remember this!"

Chuck Norris and his team guard a robot laser being moved by train. The Claw's men try to steal it, and Super-Ninja even plants bombs on the train!

Chuck Norris races to a space shuttle launch to warn a general about the Claw's plans. The Claw steals a shuttle with a powerful fusion cannon, so Chuck must go into space to stop him!

The Claw tries to take over a US satellite to control military bases. Chuck Norris goes to Voodoo Island to get it back, but the island is full of "walking dead" creatures!

The Comic Book Series

A comic book series was also made for Karate Kommandos. It was published by Star Comics, which was a part of Marvel Comics that made comics for younger kids. The art for the comic was drawn by Steve Ditko.

In the first issue, Too-Much dreams of being a great martial artist like Chuck Norris. But then, the Claw's ninjas take Too-Much, his classmates, and their teacher hostage! They demand a new anti-terrorist weapon called the Super-cruiser. Pepper and her dog help fight the ninjas, and Chuck Norris himself saves the day!

Action Figures

To go along with the TV show, a toy company called Kenner Products made a set of action figures. These toys were based on the main characters from the show. Kenner also made cool accessories, like weapons and vehicles, for the figures.

In Popular Culture

  • The show was mentioned in an episode of the cartoon Space Dandy.
  • The show was also made fun of in the 2012 CGI series version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They had a fake cartoon show called Chris Bradford's 2 Ruff Krew, which was a funny take on Karate Kommandos.
