Karen Kay Sharpe, born on September 20, 1934, is an American actress. She is well-known for her role as Laura Thomas in the TV western series Johnny Ringo.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Karen Sharpe was born in San Antonio, Texas. Her father, Kirk Howard Sharpe, was a businessman in the oil industry. As a young person, Karen was an ice skater in Hollywood, California. She also attended the Hollywood Professional School. She studied dancing with the famous choreographer Adolph Bolm in Los Angeles, California.

Before becoming an actress, Sharpe worked as a model. She had some screen tests that didn't lead to roles at first. However, a talent scout discovered her, and she began her acting career in 1952.

First Roles and Awards

Her first main role was as Jane Harris in the 1952 film Army Bound. In the same year, she appeared in several other films, including The Sniper and Holiday for Sinners. She also made her first TV appearance in the ABC show Rebound.

In 1955, Karen Sharpe won a special award. She received a Golden Globe Award for "New Star of the Year – Actress." This award was for her performance as Nell Buck in the 1954 film The High and the Mighty. She shared this award with other rising stars like Shirley MacLaine and Kim Novak.

Television and Film Roles

Later in her career, in 1959, Sharpe took on a big role in television. She starred as Laura Thomas in the CBS western series Johnny Ringo. She acted alongside Don Durant and Mark Goddard in this popular show.

After Johnny Ringo ended in 1960, Karen Sharpe appeared as a guest star in many other TV shows. These included famous westerns like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. She also appeared in shows such as Perry Mason, The Wild Wild West, and I Dream of Jeannie.

She continued to act in films too. Some of her movie roles included Man with the Gun, Mexican Manhunt, and Tarawa Beachhead. Her last acting role was in the 2021 film Fate's Shadow: The Whole Story.

Karen Sharpe married actor Chester Stevens Marshall in 1957. They later divorced in 1962 due to personal difficulties.

In the early 1960s, Karen Sharpe took over her father's business. She managed it in Texas for several years before selling it and moving back to California.

On September 1, 1966, Karen Sharpe married Stanley Kramer. He was a well-known film director and producer. They were married in Beverly Hills, California, and had two children together. Stanley Kramer passed away in 2001.
