Karen Kay Sharpe (born September 20, 1934) is an American actress. She worked in both films and television shows. Karen Sharpe is well-known for her role as Laura Thomas. She played this character in the American western TV series Johnny Ringo.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Karen Sharpe was born on September 20, 1934, in San Antonio, Texas. Her parents were Dorothy Shrout and Kirk Howard Sharpe. Her father was a businessman who worked in the oil industry.

As a young person, Karen was an ice skater in Hollywood, California. She also attended the Hollywood Professional School. She studied dancing with a famous ballet dancer and choreographer named Adolph Bolm. He taught her in Los Angeles, California.

Karen Sharpe started her career as a model. She tried out for many acting roles but did not get them at first. However, a talent scout noticed her. She then began her acting career in 1952. Her first film was Army Bound.

Acting Successes

Karen Sharpe appeared in several films during her career. Some of these movies include The Sniper and Bomba and the Jungle Girl. She also acted in Holiday for Sinners and The Vanquished.

She was also a guest star on many popular television shows. These shows included Gunsmoke and Bonanza. She also appeared in Perry Mason and I Dream of Jeannie.

In 1955, Karen Sharpe won a special award. She received the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year – Actress. This award was for her role as Nell Buck in the 1954 film The High and the Mighty. She shared this award with Shirley MacLaine and Kim Novak.

In 1959, Sharpe took on a main role in a new CBS western TV series. This show was called Johnny Ringo. She played the character Laura Thomas. Karen Sharpe stopped acting in 1966. Her last appearance was in the television film Valley of Mystery. In that movie, she played Connie Lane.

Karen Sharpe married actor Chester Stevens Marshall in 1957. They later divorced in 1962.

In the early 1960s, Karen Sharpe took over her father's business. She managed it in Texas for several years. After that, she sold the business and moved back to California.

On September 1, 1966, Karen Sharpe married Stanley Kramer. He was a famous film director and producer. They got married in Beverly Hills, California. Karen and Stanley had two daughters together, named Jennifer and Katharine.

Karen Sharpe moved to Seattle, Washington in 1978. Later, in 1985, she moved back to Beverly Hills, California.
