Karl Allgöwer, born on January 5, 1957, is a German former professional footballer. He was a talented midfielder. Karl spent most of his playing career with the club VfB Stuttgart. With them, he won the Bundesliga (Germany's top football league) in 1984. He was also part of the West German team that finished second in the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Clubs
Early Career and Stuttgarter Kickers
Karl Allgöwer grew up in Geislingen an der Steige, Germany. He played for youth teams like SV Altenstadt and SC Geislingen. From 1977 to 1980, he played as a striker for Stuttgarter Kickers. This team was in the 2. Bundesliga, which is Germany's second-highest football league. During his time there, he scored an impressive 59 goals.
Joining VfB Stuttgart
In 1980, VfB Stuttgart, a big club in the Bundesliga, bought Karl Allgöwer. They paid 750,000 Deutsche Mark for him. He quickly showed his skills as a goal-scoring midfielder. Soon after joining VfB Stuttgart, he was chosen to play for Germany's B-international team.
Success with VfB Stuttgart
Karl Allgöwer became a very important player for VfB Stuttgart. In 1984, he helped his team win the Bundesliga title. This was a huge achievement for the club. Later in his career, he even switched to playing as a sweeper, showing his versatility.
His brother, Ralf Allgöwer, also played a few matches for Stuttgart. However, Karl was much more well-known and important to the team. Karl was also known for his powerful free-kicks.
In 1989, Karl Allgöwer played in the UEFA Cup final with Stuttgart. They faced Diego Maradona's SSC Napoli team and were defeated. After playing 338 matches in the Bundesliga, Karl Allgöwer retired from top-level German football in the summer of 1991.
Playing for West Germany
First Call-Up and Retirement
Karl Allgöwer's great performance for VfB Stuttgart quickly caught the eye of the national team coach, Jupp Derwall. In November 1980, he made his debut for West Germany against France in Hanover. He played well as a right midfielder.
He was expected to play in the 1982 FIFA World Cup. However, Karl Allgöwer decided to retire from playing for West Germany before the tournament.
Return to the National Team
After three years, Franz Beckenbauer, the new coach for the German team, tried to convince Karl to return. Karl finally came out of retirement in October 1985. He played in a World Cup qualifier against Portugal. This match was special because it took place at VfB Stuttgart's home stadium, the Neckarstadion.
He continued to play for West Germany and was part of the team that finished second in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. However, he did not play in any matches during that tournament. After the World Cup, he retired from international football for good. He played a total of 10 matches for West Germany.
