Katelyn Ohashi (born April 12, 1997) is an amazing American gymnast. She became famous for her exciting floor routines. Katelyn competed for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She earned many awards, including six All-American honors. Katelyn was also a four-time member of the USA Gymnastics Junior National Team. She won the junior national championship in 2011. In 2013, she won the American Cup.
Katelyn's floor routines often included popular dance moves. In January 2019, one of her routines went viral online. She earned a perfect 10 score at the 2019 Collegiate Challenge. This was her fourth perfect 10 on floor exercise.

Early Life and Education
Katelyn Ohashi was born in Seattle, Washington. Her parents are Richard and Diana Ohashi. Her mother was also a gymnast in high school. Katelyn has three older brothers: Ryan, Kyle, and Kalen. Her family has both German and Japanese heritage.
Katelyn started gymnastics when she was just three years old. To help with her training, Katelyn, her mother, and her youngest brother moved. They first went to Kansas City, Missouri, in 2006. Three years later, they moved to Plano, Texas.
She went to Spring Creek Academy. Katelyn then graduated from Plano Senior High School in 2015. In the fall of 2015, she started college at UCLA. She studied gender studies and graduated in 2019.
Katelyn has openly shared her experiences with body image challenges. She received unkind comments about her body. This led to her developing an eating disorder. She has found that getting mental health support was very helpful. Katelyn says it was "crucial in my growing as a person and my mental health."
Katelyn's Gymnastics Journey
Katelyn began her gymnastics career training with Al Fong. This was at Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE) in Blue Springs, Missouri. She was 12 years old when she first competed nationally. This was at the 2009 Junior Olympic National Championships. She won first place on floor exercise. She also tied for second on uneven bars. Katelyn placed fourth in the all-around competition.
Her first elite competition was the 2009 U.S. Classic. She placed fourth on floor in the junior division. She also tied for fifth on balance beam. Katelyn finished ninth in the all-around. This performance helped her qualify for the National Championships. There, she won a silver medal on floor. She was also named to the junior national team.
Soon after, Katelyn moved to Plano, Texas. She began training at WOGA.
Junior Competition Highlights
In 2010, Katelyn continued to shine. At the U.S. Classic, she won silver medals in the all-around. She also earned silver on bars, beam, and floor. At the National Championships in July, she won the bars title. She placed third in the all-around.
Katelyn also competed internationally at the 2010 Bumbo Cup. She won gold medals in the all-around, floor, and vault. She also earned silver medals on bars and beam.
In 2011, Katelyn helped the U.S. team win gold at the City of Jesolo Trophy. She also won an individual gold medal on floor. At the U.S. Classic, she won a silver medal on beam. In August, she won the junior all-around title at the National Championships. She beat the defending champion, Kyla Ross. Katelyn also won gold medals on bars, beam, and floor at this event.
Senior Level and Injuries
Katelyn won the 2013 American Cup. She beat her U.S. teammate Simone Biles. However, in April, she had shoulder surgery. This kept her from competing for the rest of the year.
Later, Katelyn faced more challenges. She suffered from two torn shoulders. She also had a spine injury that needed surgery. These injuries kept her from competing until 2015.
Return to Level 10
In 2015, Katelyn decided to compete at Level 10. This is a different level of competition than elite. Her first competition since 2013 was the Texas Prime Meet. She competed on vault, beam, and floor. She also competed at the Pikes Peak Cup and the WOGA Classic. Katelyn showed great strength in returning to the sport.
Collegiate Gymnastics Success
Katelyn joined the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team for the 2015–2016 season. She was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week four times. During a meet, she had an accident on the balance beam. She landed on her neck and found out she had a sternal fracture. This injury kept her out for four weeks.
The next season, Katelyn was ranked No. 1 on balance beam. She earned two perfect 10s. In the 2018 season, she did even better. She earned three perfect 10s on floor. These were the first perfect 10s of her career on that event. She also set new personal bests on uneven bars, vault, and in the all-around. Katelyn finished the season ranked first on floor and third on beam. She was named the PAC-12 specialist of the year.
At the national championships, she competed on beam and floor. She placed fourth on beam and won the floor title. This was her first national championship win. The next night, she won another national championship with the UCLA team. Katelyn scored 9.95s on both beam and floor.
At the 2019 Collegiate Challenge, Katelyn earned another perfect 10. This was for a floor routine set to R&B and pop music. This routine became incredibly popular online.

After College Gymnastics
In September 2020, Katelyn starred in a TV commercial. It was for the Toyota GR Yaris car. In the ad, Katelyn is seen tumbling down a street in Cape Town. She then leaps into the air and lands in the car.
In 2021, Katelyn joined Simone Biles' "Gold Over America Tour." This was a special gymnastics show. She also joined the tour again in 2024.
