Katelyn Michelle Ohashi (born April 12, 1997) is an American gymnast. She is famous for her amazing gymnastics routines, especially her floor exercises. Katelyn competed for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in college. She was a six-time All-American, which means she was one of the best gymnasts in the country.
Katelyn was also a four-time member of the USA Gymnastics Junior National Team. She won the junior national championship in 2011. In 2013, she won the American Cup. Katelyn became very popular online in January 2019. A video of her perfect 10 score on floor exercise went viral. This was her fourth perfect 10 score in her college career.

Early Life and Education
Katelyn Ohashi was born in Seattle, Washington. Her parents are Richard and Diana Ohashi. Her mother was also a gymnast in high school. Katelyn has three older brothers: Ryan, Kyle, and Kalen. Her family has both German and Japanese roots.
Katelyn started gymnastics when she was just three years old. In 2006, Katelyn, her mother, and her youngest brother, Kalen, moved. They first went to Kansas City, Missouri. Three years later, they moved to Plano, Texas. These moves helped Katelyn with her gymnastics training.
She went to Spring Creek Academy and later graduated from Plano Senior High School in 2015. In the fall of 2015, she started college at the University of California, Los Angeles. She studied gender studies and finished her degree in 2019.
Katelyn has spoken openly about challenges she faced. She had problems with how she saw her body. She also received mean comments about her body. This led to an eating disorder. Katelyn shared that getting help for her mental health was very important. She said it was "crucial in my growing as a person and my mental health."
Gymnastics Career Highlights
Katelyn started her gymnastics training with Al Fong. This was at Great American Gymnastics Express (GAGE) in Blue Springs, Missouri. Katelyn was 12 years old when she first competed nationally. This was at the 2009 Junior Olympic National Championships. She won first place on floor exercise. She also tied for second on uneven bars. She placed fourth in the all-around and tied for seventh on vault.
She competed in her first elite meet at the 2009 U.S. Classic. This event was in Des Moines, Iowa. In the junior division, she placed fourth on floor. She tied for fifth on balance beam and was ninth in the all-around. This allowed her to compete at the National Championships in Dallas. There, she won a silver medal on floor. She placed sixth on beam and tenth in the all-around. She was also chosen for the junior national team.
After the National Championships, Ohashi moved to Plano, Texas. She began training at WOGA.
Junior Success (2010-2012)
In 2010, Katelyn continued to shine in the junior division. At the U.S. Classic in Chicago, she won silver medals. These were for the all-around, bars, beam, and floor. At the National Championships in Hartford, Connecticut, she won the bars title. She also placed third in the all-around.
Katelyn traveled to Pretoria, South Africa, for the 2010 Bumbo Cup. There, she won gold medals in the all-around, floor, and vault. She also earned silver medals on bars and beam.
In 2011, Katelyn helped the U.S. team win gold at the City of Jesolo Trophy. She also won an individual gold medal on floor. She tied for second on uneven bars and placed third all-around. At the U.S. Classic, she won a silver medal on beam.
At the National Championships in August 2011, Katelyn won the junior all-around title. She scored 120.95 over two nights. She beat the defending champion, Kyla Ross. Katelyn also won gold medals on bars, beam, and floor at this event. Her beam routine was known for being very difficult.
In 2012, Katelyn continued her winning streak. At the Pacific Rim Championships, she won five gold medals. These were for team, all-around, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.
Senior and College Career
Katelyn won the 2013 American Cup in March. She beat her U.S. teammate Simone Biles. However, in April, she had shoulder surgery. This injury kept her from competing for the rest of the year.
Later, Katelyn faced more injuries. She had two torn shoulders and a spine injury. These required surgery. She did not compete again until 2015.
In 2015, Katelyn decided to step back from elite competition. She moved to Level 10. This allowed her to focus on her health and prepare for college gymnastics. Her first competition since 2013 was the Texas Prime Meet. She competed on vault, beam, and floor.
Katelyn joined the UCLA Bruins gymnastics team for the 2015–2016 season. She was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week four times. During a competition, she had an accident on the balance beam. She landed on her neck and found out she had a sternal fracture. This injury kept her out for four weeks.
The next season, Katelyn became the top-ranked gymnast on balance beam. She earned two perfect 10s. In the 2018 season, she performed even better. She scored three perfect 10s on floor, her first ever. She also set new personal bests on uneven bars, vault, and in the all-around. She finished the season ranked first on floor and third on beam. She was named the PAC-12 specialist of the year.
At the national championships, she won the floor title. This was her first national championship win. The next night, she won another national championship with the UCLA team. At the 2019 Collegiate Challenge, Katelyn earned another perfect 10. This was for a floor routine that became very popular online.

After College (2020s)
In September 2020, Katelyn starred in a TV commercial. It was for the Toyota GR Yaris car. In the ad, Katelyn is seen tumbling down a street in Cape Town. She then leaps into the air and lands in the car.
In 2021, Katelyn joined Simone Biles' "Gold Over America Tour." This was a gymnastics show that traveled across the country. She joined the tour again in 2024.
