Kathryn Chandria Manuel Bernardo (born March 26, 1996) is a famous Filipino actress. She started acting when she was a child. She played younger versions of main characters in TV shows like It Might Be You (2003).

Kathryn became very well-known in 2010 with the TV show Mara Clara. Since then, she has become one of the most popular and successful actors in the Philippines. Her movies have earned a lot of money, making her the highest-grossing Filipino actress of the 2010s.

She is known as the "Box Office Queen of her generation." She is the only Filipino actress with two movies that each earned over ₱800 million. Forbes Asia also recognized her as one of the most influential celebrities in the Asia-Pacific region on social media.

Kathryn has starred in many popular TV series. These include Mara Clara (2010–2011) and Princess and I (2012–2013). Other big shows were Got to Believe (2013–2014) and Pangako Sa 'Yo (2015–2016). She also appeared in La Luna Sangre (2017–2018) and 2 Good 2 Be True (2022).

Early Life and Education

Kathryn Bernardo was born on March 26, 1996. Her birthplace was Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, in the Philippines. She is the youngest of four children. Her parents are Luzviminda and Teodore Bernardo.

She was raised in a certain faith. Later, around 2016, she changed her faith.

School Days

Before she started acting in 2003, Kathryn went to Flowerlane Montessori Children's House. This school was in Cabanatuan. Later, she attended OB Montessori Center in Quezon City.

Because she was so busy with acting, she joined a homeschooling program in 2011. This program was at UST Angelicum College. She also started studying marketing at Enderun Colleges. However, she had to pause her studies because of her TV series Got to Believe. As of 2021, she still wanted to finish her college degree in marketing or communication arts.

Career Highlights

2003–2011: Starting Out and First Big Roles

Kathryn began her acting journey in 2003. She played young Cielo in ABS-CBN's It Might Be You. In 2006, she got her first main role in the TV series Super Inggo. She played Maya, who was the main character's love interest.

After that, she appeared in various ABS-CBN shows. These included Krystala and Vietnam Rose. She then joined the children's comedy show Goin' Bulilit.

As a child actress, Kathryn played young Victoria in ABS-CBN's Magkaribal. She also played young Jenny in GMA's Endless Love. Both of these shows started on June 28, 2010.

Her biggest break came when she got the main role of Mara David. This was in the remake of the 1992 drama series Mara Clara. The show was a huge success. It helped her become known as a rising actress. After Mara Clara, Kathryn starred in the teen show Growing Up. She played Ella, a 15-year-old girl living with her single mom.

Kathryn's film career started in 2003. She had a small role as young Lupe in the movie Lupe: A Seaman's Wife. The next year, she was in the superhero comedy film Gagamboy. 2012–2022: Working with Daniel Padilla

After Mara Clara, Kathryn became even more famous. This was with the popular TV drama series Princess and I. She starred with Daniel Padilla and Enrique Gil. In the show, she played Mikay, who was also Princess Areeyah. This show was special because it was the first Philippine series filmed in Bhutan. It was praised for its grand production.

Later in 2012, Kathryn and Daniel were in the romantic-comedy film 24/7 in Love. They also joined the comedy film Sisterakas with Vice Ganda. This movie was part of the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Kathryn and Daniel became known as KathNiel. Their first movie together as the main stars was Must Be... Love. It was a romantic comedy released in March 2013. In August of that year, they starred in the TV series Got to Believe. This show had high ratings throughout its run. In December 2013, they were in the horror film Pagpag. This movie was an entry in the 39th Metro Manila Film Festival.

Their teamwork continued with the successful movie She's Dating the Gangster in July 2014. It was one of the highest-earning films that year. Kathryn and Daniel received stars on the Eastwood Walk of Fame in Quezon City. This recognized their contributions to Philippine entertainment in December 2014.

Over the years, Kathryn and Daniel worked together on many successful films and TV shows. They starred in the 2015 film Crazy Beautiful You. Then came the 2016 film Barcelona: A Love Untold. It broke box office records in the Philippines and other countries. The movie was the highest-earning Filipino film of all time for over four years (2019-2024). In 2022, Kathryn reunited with Daniel Padilla in the TV series 2 Good 2 Be True. This was their last project together before their relationship ended in 2023. She was named the Outstanding Asian Star at the 18th Seoul International Drama Awards.

2023–Present: Continued Success

In 2023, Kathryn starred in A Very Good Girl. This was her first solo film in several years. She starred alongside Dolly de Leon. For her performance, she won her first Best Actress Award. This was at the 72nd FAMAS Awards in 2024. She also won the National Winner Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role. This was at the Asian Academy Creative Awards. In the same year, she won the Box Office Queen title for the second time. This was at the 52nd GMMSF Box-Office Entertainment Awards.

After five years, Kathryn reunited with Alden Richards in Hello, Love, Again. This was the sequel to their 2019 film Hello, Love, Goodbye. The film was a big success worldwide. It became the first Filipino film to earn over ₱1 billion. She was honored with the Star Rising Leopard Award. This was at the 10th Asian World Film Festival in November 2024.

In 2025, she returned to television. She became one of the judges for the seventh season of Pilipinas Got Talent.

Personal Life

In 2018, Kathryn confirmed her long-term relationship with actor Daniel Padilla. Their relationship began on May 25, 2012. On November 30, 2023, they announced that their relationship had ended.

Since April 2024, Kathryn has owned a house in Antipolo.

Business Ventures

In 2017, Kathryn started her nail salon business. It is called KathNails by KCMB. It has eight branches across the Philippines. In 2022, she opened another nail salon, The Glow Up Lounge. This business has five branches nationwide.

She also helped start a boutique hotel called Isla Amara. It is located in El Nido, Palawan. She co-owns it with actor Piolo Pascual and other partners.
