Kathyrn is a very small community, called a hamlet, located in southern Alberta, Canada. It's part of Rocky View County. Imagine a tiny village; that's what a hamlet is!
This small place is about 32 kilometers (20 miles) northeast of Calgary. You can find it near Highway 566 and Highway 9. A Canadian National Railway line also passes through Kathyrn, heading towards Three Hills.
Want to know how Kathyrn got its unique name? A local farmer named Neil McKay owned a lot of land here. In 1911, he offered some of his land to the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway Company to build a town. He had one condition: he wanted to name it after his daughter, Kathryn. When the train station was finally built in 1913, the person painting the sign accidentally misspelled her name, writing "Kathyrn" instead of "Kathryn." And that's how the hamlet got its unusual spelling! The local post office opened a few years later, on January 1, 1919.
