Katsuhisa Hattori's Life and Music

Creating Music for Video Games

In 1989, Katsuhisa Hattori and his son, Takayuki Hattori, worked together. They created the first orchestral music CD for the famous Final Fantasy video game series. This music was for the video game composer Nobuo Uematsu. The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra played the music on the CD, which was called "Symphonic Suite Final Fantasy".

Later, in 1991, Nobuo Uematsu asked him to create more Final Fantasy music. Hattori produced several songs for the "Orchestral Game Concert" CDs. These concerts featured orchestral versions of popular video game music.

Hattori passed away on June 11, 2020, when he was 83 years old. He received a special award for his lifetime achievements at the 62nd Japan Record Awards.
