Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds is a fun animated TV show from 1981. It was made in Spain and Japan. The show is based on the famous book The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas.

Most of the characters in the series are dogs who act like humans. This is why the show is called "Muskehounds"! But there are a few exceptions, like Dogtanian's friends Pip the mouse and Planchet the bear.

Over the years, special movies have been made from the series. There was also a sequel show called The Return of Dogtanian. In 2021, a new movie using computer animation (CGI) was released in cinemas.

Dogtanian's Adventures: The Plot

The story takes place in France in the 1600s. It follows a brave young dog named Dogtanian. He leaves his home in Béarn and travels to Paris. His big dream is to become one of King Louis XIII of France's special guards, called musketeers.

In Paris, Dogtanian quickly becomes friends with three famous musketeers: Porthos, Athos, and Aramis. He also helps Juliette, who works for Queen Anne of Austria. Together, they go on many exciting adventures.

How the Show Was Made: Production

The Dogtanian series was created in 1981. It was a team effort between a Spanish company called BRB Internacional and a Japanese studio named Nippon Animation.

The show first aired in Japan on October 9, 1981. A year later, on October 9, 1982, it started showing in Spain. The partnership between these two companies worked so well that they later made another popular show called Around the World with Willy Fog.

In 1985, the series was dubbed into English. This means the voices were changed to English. It was first shown in the United Kingdom on the BBC channel in January 1985. Today, you can still watch Dogtanian on different online platforms like YouTube and Netflix.
