Waterways and Geography
Kawaweogama Lake is an important part of a big river system. Water flows into it from the western branch of the Brightsand River. This water comes from places like Seseganaga Lake and Sunray Lake. The main inflow is at the southwest side of Kawaweogama Lake.
River Outflow
The water then flows out of Kawaweogama Lake from its northern end. This outflow channel joins with the eastern branch of the Brightsand River. Together, they form a new river called the Allan Water. The Allan Water then flows into the Ogoki River, which eventually joins the Albany River. Finally, the Albany River carries all this water into James Bay. This means Kawaweogama Lake is connected to a vast network of rivers leading to the ocean!
Lake Features
The lake has one island that has been named: Star Island. You can also find an interesting natural feature called an esker running through the east side of the lake. An esker is a long, winding ridge of sand and gravel. It was formed by rivers flowing under glaciers during the last Ice Age. This esker continues onto the land north of the lake.
Nearby Communities
Just beyond the northern end of Kawaweogama Lake is a small community called Allanwater Bridge. This community is important because of its connection to transportation.
Getting Around
Allanwater Bridge is a key spot for travel in the area.
Railway Connections
The Allanwater Bridge railway station is located in Allanwater Bridge. This station is on the main railway line of the Canadian National Railway (CN). This railway is part of the transcontinental network, meaning it stretches across Canada. The railway line crosses the Allan Water river right at Allanwater Bridge.
Train Service
The Allanwater Bridge station is also a stop for Via Rail's famous Canadian train service. This train travels long distances, connecting different parts of Canada. The CN main railway line also crosses the very northern tip of Kawaweogama Lake, just west of Allanwater Bridge. This shows how important the lake and its surrounding area are for transportation.
