Kaylyn McKenzie Kyle, born on October 6, 1988, is a former Canadian soccer player. She was a key member of the Canadian national team and won a bronze medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Kaylyn is also an ambassador for Right To Play, an organization that uses sport to educate and empower children. Today, she works as a soccer broadcaster for MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, where she hosts the show MLS 360.

Early Life and Soccer Beginnings

Kaylyn Kyle grew up in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She went to Bishop Mahoney High School. There, she helped her school's soccer team win both city and provincial championships. Soccer was a big part of her family. Her dad, Doug, was a professional hockey player, and her mom, Pat, played competitive volleyball. Kaylyn's older sister, Courtnee, also played soccer at a high national level.

Kaylyn was recognized for her talent early on. She was named Saskatchewan Soccer Association Youth Female Player of The Year three times: in 2004, 2005, and 2006. Later, she earned the Senior Female Player of the Year award in 2010 and 2011.

Playing for the University of Saskatchewan

In 2006, Kaylyn attended the University of Saskatchewan. She played Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) soccer for the university team. During that year, she played in 14 games, scoring three goals and making three assists. After just one year, her skills caught the eye of the Canadian national team. She was invited to join them and was also offered a chance to play professionally in Sweden.

Kaylyn Kyle had an exciting career playing for several professional soccer clubs. She also represented her country on the international stage.

Club Teams

Vancouver Whitecaps

Kaylyn played for the Vancouver Whitecaps for six seasons between 2006 and 2012. In her first season in 2006, she played one game. In 2007, she played eight games and scored one goal. During the 2008 season, she played six games and helped with two assists. In 2010, she played five games and had two assists. She also played in two playoff games, scoring one goal and assisting another, as the Whitecaps reached the championship final. In 2011, she played in three playoff games, scoring two goals. One of these was the winning goal against their rivals, Seattle, which helped her team finish in third place.

Piteå IF

In 2009, Kaylyn played in Sweden for a team called Piteå IF. This team was part of Sweden's top women's soccer league, Damallsvenskan. She played in 13 games for them and scored one goal.

Seattle Reign FC

In 2013, Kaylyn joined the Seattle Reign FC team in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). At first, she played as a midfielder. Later, she moved to a center-back position, which helped make the team's defense stronger. Even as a defender, Kaylyn was one of the top scorers for the Reign. She scored three goals that season, all of them from penalty kicks. She played in 21 games for the team, starting in 19 of them.

Boston Breakers

In September 2013, Kaylyn was traded from Seattle to the Boston Breakers. This trade involved another Canadian player, Carmelina Moscato.

Houston Dash

In April 2014, Kaylyn was traded again, this time to the Houston Dash. This trade involved player Nikki Washington.

Portland Thorns

In 2015, Kaylyn played in 12 games for the Portland Thorns FC.

Orlando Pride

In October 2015, Kaylyn Kyle joined the Orlando Pride team. She moved there along with fellow player Alex Morgan from Portland Thorns FC. Kaylyn played in 17 games for the Pride. She left the team before the 2017 season began.

Playing for Canada

Kaylyn Kyle proudly represented Canada at different levels. She played for the U-17 and U-20 youth teams. She also played in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup twice, in 2006 and 2008.

In 2008, she played her first game for the senior national team. In 2011, she was part of the team that won a gold medal at the Pan American Games. They defeated Brazil in the final.

Kaylyn won a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games. She played a very important role in Canada's midfield throughout the tournament. Canada won the bronze medal game by beating France 1–0 on August 9, 2012.

She played her 100th game for the senior national team at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. This special game was during the round of 16 match against Switzerland.

Kaylyn Kyle announced that she was retiring from playing for the national team on April 21, 2017.

Life After Soccer

After retiring from playing soccer, Kaylyn Kyle started a new career as a broadcaster.

In 2017, she became a broadcaster for TSN. In June 2019, she made headlines when she shared her opinion about the US team's celebrations. This was after they scored many goals in their 13–0 win against Thailand during the Women's World Cup. Kaylyn also regularly hosts and works as an analyst for broadcasts on BeIN Sports. In 2020, she was announced as the sideline reporter for Inter Miami CF.

Kaylyn joined the Apple TV MLS Season Pass broadcasting team for the 2023 season. In December 2023, she also became a brand ambassador for Can-i Wellness oral spray supplements.

Personal Life

Kaylyn Kyle married Harrison Heath in 2017. They welcomed their first child, a son named Hayden Jack Heath, in June 2018.
