Biography
Kazimierz Lux was born in Warsaw, Poland, in 1780. When he was 15 years old, he joined the Polish Legions. These were Polish military units that fought alongside France during the Napoleonic Wars. Lux fought in a campaign in Italy.
In 1803, Lux's military unit was sent to San Domingo. This island is now known as Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Their mission was to help France regain control of the island. After the fighting there calmed down, Lux began a new path.
He became a pirate. One of his notable actions was taking over an American ship. This ship was later sold for 20,000 francs in Havana, Cuba.
After his time as a pirate, Lux returned to Europe. He served in the army of the Duchy of Warsaw. This was a Polish state created by Napoleon. He also took part in a military campaign in Russia.
