Keiju Karashima (辛島 啓珠, Karashima Keiju, born June 24, 1971) is a Japanese former football player and manager. He was born in Kyoto, Japan. Keiju Karashima played as a defender for several professional teams. After his playing career, he became a successful football manager. He has coached many different clubs, including women's teams.
Keiju Karashima's Playing Days
Keiju Karashima was born in Kyoto on June 24, 1971. After finishing his studies at University of Tsukuba, he joined Gamba Osaka in 1994. He quickly became a regular player for the team. He played as a center back from his very first season.
However, from 1995, injuries started to affect his playing time. In 1997, he moved to Avispa Fukuoka. He found it hard to get much playing time there. He left the club at the end of the 1997 season.
After a break of ten months, in October 1998, he joined his local team, Kyoto Purple Sanga. He played for them until 1999. Still, he did not get to play in many matches. In 2000, he moved to Mito HollyHock. This club had just been promoted to the J2 League.
He played regularly for Mito HollyHock in 2000. But in 2001, his chances to play decreased again. He decided to retire from playing football in September 2001.
Keiju Karashima's Coaching Career
After retiring as a player, Keiju Karashima started his coaching journey. He began coaching at Kashiwa Reysol in October 2001. He coached their youth team until June 2004. In 2005, he became the manager for Matsumoto Yamaga FC. This club played in the Japanese Regional Leagues. He managed them until 2007.
In 2008, he moved to FC Gifu, a club that had just joined the J2 League. He worked as a coach for their main team. He also managed their reserve team. In 2009, he moved to Japan Soccer College, another Regional Leagues club. He started there as a coach.
In 2010, he became the manager of Japan Soccer College. He led the team until 2012. In 2013, he returned to FC Gifu as a coach. He worked under manager Koji Gyotoku. In August of that year, Gyotoku left the team. Karashima then took over as the new manager.
In 2014, he moved to Sagawa Printing Kyoto. This team played in the Japan Football League and was based in his home area. In 2015, he became the manager of SC Sagamihara, a J3 League club. He managed them until November of that year.
In 2016, he signed with Albirex Niigata Ladies. This is a women's football club in the L.League. Under his management, the team finished in 2nd place in the 2016 Empress's Cup. He managed the club until 2017. In 2018, he moved to Suzuka Unlimited FC, a Regional Leagues club. In 2019, he joined Mynavi Vegalta Sendai Ladies, another L.League team.
