Keion Carpenter's Football Journey
Keion Carpenter loved football from a young age. He played high school football at Woodlawn High School. Later, he played college football for Virginia Tech. Even though he wasn't picked in the NFL draft, the Buffalo Bills signed him in 1999. This means he joined the team as a "free agent."
He played for the Bills for three seasons, from 1999 to 2001. In 2002, he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons. His career with the Falcons was affected by injuries. At the end of the 2003 season, he tore his ACL. This is a major knee injury.
Keion Carpenter was also known for something special. He was one of the few football players who had a successful spinal fusion surgery and then returned to play. He played for three more years after this big surgery.
Keion's Life Outside Football
Keion Carpenter had a family. He had a wife and four children, including three daughters and one son.
He also started a non-profit organization called The Carpenter House, Inc. This group helped families who didn't have much money. It gave them advice on how to own their own homes.
A Sad Farewell
On December 27, 2016, Keion was on vacation in Miami with his family. He had an accident where he fell and hit his head. He became unconscious and sadly passed away two days later, on December 29, 2016.
