Discovering the Kendall Inn
The Kendall Inn is a two-story building. It was built in a style called Greek Revival. This style was popular a long time ago. It's one of the few old hotels from the 1800s still standing in Texas.
How the Inn Began
A couple named Erastus and Sarah Reed built the hotel. They used strong limestone blocks. The Reeds came to Boerne from Georgia. They had experience running hotels there. When it first opened, the Inn was called the "Reed House." It had four rooms ready for travelers.
Changes Over the Years
Over many years, the Kendall Inn had several different owners. Each owner added their own touch to the building.
- In 1869, a man named Col. Henry C. King bought the Inn. He changed its name to "King Place."
- Then, in 1878, J. C. Rountree and W. L. Wadsworth bought it. They added two new parts, or "wings," to the building. They also changed the name to the "Boerne Hotel."

- Dr. J. H. Barnitz from San Antonio bought the Inn in 1909. He called it "Ye Kendall Inn." Dr. Barnitz made some big updates. He had electricity put in and added shared bathrooms for guests.
