Kenedy is a city in Karnes County, Texas, United States. It was named after Mifflin Kenedy. He bought a very large area of land, about 400,000 acres (1,600 km²). He wanted to create a new town and name it after himself. In 2020, about 3,473 people lived in Kenedy. This was a small increase from 3,296 people in 2010.

History of Kenedy
In the early 1900s, Kenedy was known for many gunfighter shootings. Because of this, people sometimes called the town "Six Shooter Junction."
Kenedy During World War II
During World War II, a special camp called the Kenedy Allen Detention Camp was built near Kenedy. It was first used to house people of German, Italian, and Japanese backgrounds. These people were living in Latin America or the U.S. and were moved to the camp during the war.
Later, the camp became a prisoner of war camp. It held German and Japanese soldiers captured during the war. The camp opened in April 1942 and closed in September 1945, after the war ended.
Connection to San Antonio River Walk
In 2019, an interesting discovery was made in a Kenedy house. Blueprints were found that were drawn by Robert H.H. Hugman. He is famous for designing the San Antonio River Walk. This shows a cool link between Kenedy and a world-famous landmark!
Geography of Kenedy
Kenedy is located in the southern part of Karnes County, Texas. It is about 28.81 degrees north and 97.85 degrees west.
Roads and Nearby Cities
U.S. Route 181 goes through the west side of Kenedy. This road leads northwest about 6 miles (10 km) to Karnes City, which is the county seat. It also goes about 60 miles (97 km) to San Antonio. If you go south on US-181, you can reach Beeville (about 31 miles or 50 km) and Corpus Christi (about 88 miles or 142 km).
Texas State Highway 72 (Main Street) runs through the middle of Kenedy. This highway goes northeast about 25 miles (40 km) to Yorktown. It goes southwest about 33 miles (53 km) to Three Rivers.
