Kenta Shimizu's Football Journey
Kenta Shimizu was born in Matsudo, Japan, on September 18, 1981. After finishing high school, he started his professional football career in 2000. He joined Kashiwa Reysol, a team in the top Japanese league, called the J1 League.
Starting at Kashiwa Reysol
Even though Kenta joined Kashiwa Reysol in 2000, it took him a few years to play in a real match. He made his first appearance in 2003. He played a few games until April 2005, but it was tough for him to get regular playing time. This was because another great goalkeeper, Yuta Minami, was usually chosen to play.
Time with Montedio Yamagata
In April 2005, Kenta moved to Montedio Yamagata, a team in the J2 League, which is the second division. At first, he didn't play much, as Shigeru Sakurai was the main goalkeeper. However, Kenta got to play in the last five matches of the 2005 season.
In 2006, Kenta became the main goalkeeper for Montedio Yamagata. He played really well! In 2008, his team finished second in the J2 League. This was a huge achievement because it meant Montedio Yamagata was promoted to the J1 League for the very first time in their history!
Kenta continued to be the regular goalkeeper, helping his team stay in the J1 League until 2010. However, in 2011, he faced a challenge. He lost his starting spot to another player, Yuki Uekusa. The team also had a tough season and ended up at the very bottom of the league. This meant they were sent back down to the J2 League.
Kenta became the main goalkeeper again in July 2011. In 2012, he played in all 42 matches, showing how important he was to the team. But in 2013 and 2014, he didn't play as much. Other goalkeepers like Satoshi Tokizawa and Norihiro Yamagishi got more playing time.
Even so, Montedio Yamagata had a great year in 2014. They were promoted back to the J1 League! They also reached the final of the Emperor's Cup, a big football tournament in Japan, finishing as runners-up.
Moving to Kamatamare Sanuki
In 2015, Kenta Shimizu moved to another J2 League team, Kamatamare Sanuki. Here, he quickly became the team's regular goalkeeper once again. He played many games for them.
However, the team struggled in the league each season. At the end of the 2018 season, Kamatamare Sanuki was relegated to the J3 League, which is the third division of Japanese football. Kenta continued to play for them in the J3 League.
Kenta Shimizu has played over 450 professional matches in his career, showing his dedication and skill as a goalkeeper.
