Kenwood Hill is a special hill and neighborhood located in Louisville, Kentucky, in the United States. It's found on the south side of the city. The area is surrounded by New Cut Road, Kenwood Drive, Southside Drive, and Palatka Road.
This place has a long history. It was once known by other names like Sunshine Hill and Cox's Knob. Long ago, Native Americans used the hill as a lookout point. From here, they could spot buffalo roaming the lands.

History of Kenwood Hill
Early Days and Development
By 1868, a man named Benoni Figg owned this land. He used the area for his charcoal business. Charcoal is made by burning wood slowly, and it was important for fuel back then.
His family managed the land for many years. Then, in 1890, they sold it to a company that wanted to build homes. This company gave the area its current name, Kenwood Hill.
Soon after, in 1893, a major road called Southern Parkway was opened. It was first known as Grand Boulevard. This new road helped people travel to and from Kenwood Hill.
The Birth of a Famous Song
Something very special happened in Kenwood Hill in 1893. Two sisters, Patty and Mildred J. Hill, lived here. They were talented musicians and teachers.
They wrote a song called "Good Morning to All." This simple tune later became one of the most famous songs in the world: "Happy Birthday to You"! It's amazing to think such a well-known song started right here.
Growing into a Neighborhood
At first, wealthy people from Louisville built summer homes on Kenwood Hill. They enjoyed the peaceful surroundings away from the city.
The first real neighborhood development didn't start until 1942. After that, Kenwood Hill grew quickly. By the 1960s, many homes had been built.
This rapid growth caused some problems. In the 1980s, a lot of work was needed to stop erosion on the hill. Erosion happens when soil is washed away by rain or wind. Protecting the hill was important to keep the neighborhood safe and beautiful.
