History of Keswick

Keswick was founded in 1879. A railway company, the Burlington, Cedar Rapids and Northern Railway, built a train line through the area. This line was 66 miles long and went to a town called What Cheer.

The city got its name from a special place in England. A local woman who lived in Keswick, England, offered a place to stay for the workers building the train tracks. Because of her kindness, the new town was named Keswick, just like her hometown.
