Ketel Ricardo Marte Valdez (born October 12, 1993) is a talented baseball player. He is a second baseman for the Arizona Diamondbacks. This team plays in Major League Baseball (MLB). Before joining the Diamondbacks, he played for the Seattle Mariners. Ketel Marte made his first appearance in MLB in 2015. He was traded to the Diamondbacks in 2016. He has been chosen as an All-Star player twice. In 2023, he won the NLCS MVP award. This helped his team reach the World Series for the first time since 2001.

Starting in the Minor Leagues
Ketel Marte began his professional baseball career early. He signed with the Seattle Mariners on August 13, 2010. His first professional game was in 2011. He played for the Dominican Summer League Mariners. In 2012, he played for two different teams. These were the Everett AquaSox and the Clinton LumberKings.
Marte continued to play in the minor leagues in 2013. He played for the Clinton LumberKings and the High Desert Mavericks. He had a good batting average of .295. In 2014, he played for the Jackson Generals. Later, he moved up to the Tacoma Rainiers. He finished that season hitting .304. On November 20, 2014, Ketel was added to the Mariners' main roster.

Joining the Arizona Diamondbacks
On November 23, 2016, Ketel Marte was traded. The Mariners sent him and Taijuan Walker to the Arizona Diamondbacks. In return, the Mariners received Jean Segura, Mitch Haniger, and Zac Curtis. Marte started the 2017 season playing for the Reno Aces. The Diamondbacks brought him up to the major leagues on June 28.
Key Moments with the Diamondbacks
In the 2017 National League Wild Card Game, Marte played a big role. He hit two triples in a game against the Colorado Rockies. The Diamondbacks won 11–8. In 2018, the Diamondbacks moved Marte to second base. This allowed Nick Ahmed to play shortstop. That year, Marte led all of MLB with 12 triples.
In 2019, Marte was chosen as the starting second baseman for the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game. He was batting .316 with 20 home runs. The next season, Marte hit .287. On April 8, 2021, he had to go on the injured list with a leg injury. He returned to play on May 19.
On March 29, 2022, Marte signed a new contract with the Diamondbacks. He finished the 2022 season with a .240 batting average.
In 2023, Marte had an amazing postseason. In Game 3 of the 2023 National League Championship Series, he hit a game-winning single. This helped the Diamondbacks win 2–1. In Game 7, Marte made history. He extended his postseason hitting streak to 16 games. This was the longest streak for any player starting their postseason career. Marte batted .387 in the series. He was named the 2023 NLCS MVP.
Marte continued his streak in the 2023 World Series. He extended it to 18 games in Game 2. His hitting streak reached 20 games, which is the longest in postseason history! He passed famous players like Manny Ramirez and Derek Jeter. Marte's streak ended in Game 5 of the World Series. The Rangers won the series.
