Keti Tenenblat is a famous mathematician from Turkey and Brazil. She was born on November 27, 1944. She studies special types of geometry, like Riemannian geometry and Finsler geometry. She also looks at how geometry can help solve math problems called partial differential equations. With another mathematician, Chuu-Lian Terng, she made a math idea called the Backlund theorem work for more complex situations.

Keti Tenenblat's Early Life and School
Keti Tenenblat was born in İzmir, Turkey, in 1944. She went to an Italian school there for elementary and junior high. In 1957, her family moved to Brazil.
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, she finished high school at Bennett College. Then, she went to the University of Brazil (now called UFRJ) to study mathematics.
Her University Studies
From 1964 to 1968, Keti taught math in a secondary school in Rio. She finished her university degree in 1967. In 1968, she started working at the Institute of Mathematics at UFRJ.
She then went to the University of Michigan in the USA for a master's degree in math. This was from August 1968 to July 1969. She went with her husband, who was also studying there.
When she came back to Brazil, she continued teaching at UFRJ. She also started her PhD program at IMPA. In 1972, she earned her PhD. Her research was about how to measure the length of certain paths in geometric spaces. Her advisor was Manfredo do Carmo.
Keti Tenenblat's Career in Mathematics
In 1973, Keti Tenenblat joined the faculty at the University of Brasilia (UnB). She became a Full Professor there in 1989.
From 1975 to 1978, she did more research at the University of California, Berkeley. During this time, she worked with a famous mathematician named Shiing-Shen Chern. She became very interested in how differential geometry (a branch of geometry) connects with differential equations (a type of math problem).
Visiting Professor and Awards
After 1978, Keti Tenenblat made many short visits to other universities. She was a visiting professor at places like Yale University, MSRI Berkeley, and the University of Montreal. She also visited universities in China.
She has received important honors for her work. She was given Brazil's National Order of Scientific Merit in Mathematics. She is also an Emeritus Professor at the University of Brasília.
From 1989 to 1991, she was the President of the Brazilian Mathematical Society. Since 1991, she has been a member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
Keti Tenenblat has also written books about mathematics. These include Introdução à geometria diferencial (1988) and Transformações de superfícies e aplicações (1981).
Keti Tenenblat's Family Life
In 1965, Keti Tenenblat married Moyses Tenenblat, who is an engineer. They have four children: Dany (born 1970), Nitza (born 1973), Leo (born 1975). They also have seven grandchildren: Gabriel (born 1995), Yuri (born 1998), Luisa (born 2000), Clara (born 2005), Milla (born 2007), Aylou (born 2009), and Luca (born 2014).
