Kevin Dunn (born August 24, 1955) is an American actor. He is known for playing many different types of characters in movies and TV shows since the 1980s.
You might know him as Ron Witwicky, the dad in the Transformers movies. He also played Stuart Abernathy, Alan's father, in Small Soldiers. Kevin Dunn was also Colonel Hicks in the 1998 Godzilla movie. He even voiced this role in the animated Godzilla show.
On TV, he played Ben Cafferty, a White House Chief of Staff, in the comedy show Veep. He also had roles in True Detective and The Mosquito Coast.
Early Life and School
Kevin Dunn was born in Chicago, Illinois. His father, John Dunn, was a musician and poet. His mother, Margaret, was a nurse. Kevin has a sister, Nora Dunn, who is also an actress and comedian. He also has a brother, Michael.
He grew up in a Catholic family. His family background includes Irish, English, Scottish, and German roots. Kevin Dunn went to Illinois Wesleyan University and graduated in 1977. Later, in 2008, the university gave him an honorary degree.
Acting Career
Before working in movies and TV, Kevin Dunn performed in many live plays. He acted in theaters around Chicago.
He has been in many popular films. These include Small Soldiers, Godzilla, and the Transformers series. He also appeared in Ghostbusters II, Dave, and Beethoven's 2nd.
On television, Kevin Dunn played Ron Witwicky in the Transformers movies. He was also in the TV show Samantha Who? from 2007 to 2009. He had a small role as a baseball coach, Terry Hardwick, in the show 7th Heaven.
He played Joel Horneck, a friend of Jerry's, in an episode of Seinfeld called "Male Unbonding". Kevin Dunn also co-starred in Bette, a sitcom with Bette Midler. He played her husband in the first season.
Kevin Dunn also helped produce a documentary film. It was called Kumpanía: Flamenco Los Angeles (2011) and won awards.
Personal Life
Kevin Dunn married Katina Alexander in 1986. They have one son named Jack.
