Some of his well-known movies include Bad Boys (1995), The Rock (1996), Armageddon (1998), and Pearl Harbor (2001). He also directed the first five Transformers movies. His films have earned over $7.8 billion worldwide. This makes him one of the most successful directors in movie history!

Early Life and Education

Michael Bay was born in Los Angeles, California. His adoptive parents, Harriet and Jim, raised him. Harriet owned a bookstore, and Jim was an accountant.

Bay's interest in action films started when he was a kid. He once attached firecrackers to a toy train. He filmed the explosion with his mother's 8 millimeter camera. The fire department had to be called, and he got grounded!

Starting in the Film Industry

When he was 15, Bay got an internship with director George Lucas. He helped organize storyboards for the movie Raiders of the Lost Ark. At first, he thought the movie would be bad. But after seeing it in the theater, he was so impressed that he decided to become a film director.

Bay went to Wesleyan University and graduated in 1986. He studied both English and film there. Later, he attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena to continue his film studies.
