Kevin Großkreutz, born on July 19, 1988, is a German football player. He plays as a right back or a winger for the club Wacker Castrop.
He started his career at Rot Weiss Ahlen. In 2009, he joined Borussia Dortmund, a big club in the Bundesliga (Germany's top football league). He played 233 games for them and scored 27 goals. During his time at Dortmund, he helped the team win two Bundesliga titles in a row. They also won the German Cup in 2012.
After playing less at Borussia Dortmund, Großkreutz moved to Galatasaray in Turkey in 2015. He did not play any games there. In 2016, he returned to Germany to play for VfB Stuttgart. Later, he played for Darmstadt 98 and KFC Uerdingen 05. In 2021, he joined TuS Bövinghausen.
Kevin Großkreutz also played for the German national team from 2010 to 2014. He was part of the team that won the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Kevin Großkreutz's Football Journey
Starting Out in Dortmund
Großkreutz began his football journey with local clubs in Dortmund, Germany. These clubs included DJK Rot-Weiß Obereving, VfL Kemminghausen, and FC Merkur 07. In 2002, he joined Borussia Dortmund's youth team. He played there until he moved to Rot Weiss Ahlen.
Playing for Rot Weiss Ahlen
Großkreutz joined the first team at Rot Weiss Ahlen in 2006. He helped the club get promoted to the 2. Bundesliga (the second-highest league in Germany) in 2008. He scored 12 goals that season. He was even named in the "Team of the Year" by a German sports magazine called kicker. He continued to play well in the 2. Bundesliga and moved up to the top German league, the Bundesliga, after the 2008-09 season.
Time at Borussia Dortmund

Großkreutz scored his first goal for Borussia Dortmund on December 5, 2009. It was in a 4–0 win against 1. FC Nürnberg. He scored the first goal of the game early on.
He started the 2010-11 season well, scoring in a 5–0 win against 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In another game, he scored two goals against FC St. Pauli, helping Dortmund win 3–1. He was named "man of the match" for that game. In November 2010, Großkreutz signed a new contract to stay with Dortmund until 2014. He had a fantastic second season with Dortmund, scoring eight goals and making seven assists. This helped die Borussen (Borussia Dortmund's nickname) win the Bundesliga title.
Großkreutz also played in Borussia Dortmund's 4–2 victory over Bayern Munich on July 27, 2013. This win helped them lift the 2013 DFL-Supercup trophy.
On December 11, 2013, Großkreutz scored the winning goal against Marseille in a UEFA Champions League game. This 2–1 win helped Dortmund move on to the next stage of the competition.
From April to August 2015, Großkreutz played for Borussia Dortmund II, which is the reserve team. He played 6 games for them in lower leagues. In September 2015, he was set to move to Galatasaray.
Moving to Galatasaray
On September 2, 2015, it was announced that Galatasaray had not sent the correct paperwork for Großkreutz in time. Because of this, he was not allowed to play any games for Galatasaray until January 1, 2016. He signed a three-year contract with the club.
Time at VfB Stuttgart
On January 6, 2016, Großkreutz returned to Germany. He joined VfB Stuttgart after not playing any official games for Galatasaray.
On March 3, 2017, his contract with VfB Stuttgart was ended by agreement. This happened after an incident outside of football. Großkreutz said he "made a mistake" and wanted to take a break from football for a while.
Playing for Darmstadt 98
In April 2017, a month after leaving VfB Stuttgart, Großkreutz signed with 2. Bundesliga club SV Darmstadt 98. He joined them for the 2017–18 season. He played his first game for them in a friendly match on June 23, 2017.
KFC Uerdingen and Retirement
On July 5, 2018, Großkreutz joined KFC Uerdingen 05. His contract with the club ended in October 2020.
On January 24, 2021, Kevin Großkreutz announced that he was retiring from professional football.
TuS Bövinghausen and Wacker Obercastrop
On January 26, 2021, Großkreutz joined TuS Bövinghausen. This club plays in the sixth-tier Westfalenliga. At the end of the 2021–22 season, the club was promoted to the fifth-tier Oberliga Westfalen. On August 27, 2022, Großkreutz extended his contract with TuS Bövinghausen until 2025. He later joined SV Wacker Obercastrop.
International Career
Großkreutz played his first game for the German national team in a friendly match against Malta on May 13, 2010. He helped set up a goal in their 3–0 win. He then played as a starter against Sweden in a 0–0 draw on November 18, 2010.
In June 2014, he was chosen to be part of Germany's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Germany went on to win the tournament, becoming world champions! Großkreutz did not play in any games during the competition, but he was part of the winning team. His sixth and last game for Germany was later that summer in a friendly match against Argentina, who Germany had beaten in the World Cup final.
Personal Life
Kevin Großkreutz has always been a big fan of Borussia Dortmund. He grew up and lived in the Dortmund area for most of his life until he moved away to play for other clubs.
