Football Journey
Starting Out
Kevin Großkreutz began playing football at a young age in his hometown of Dortmund. He played for several local clubs like DJK Rot-Weiß Obereving and VfL Kemminghausen. In 2002, he joined the youth team of Borussia Dortmund.
Later, he moved to Rot Weiss Ahlen. He joined their first team in 2006. In 2008, he helped his team get promoted to the 2. Bundesliga, which is the second-highest league in Germany. He scored 12 goals that season and was even named one of the best players in the league by a German sports magazine.
Time at Borussia Dortmund

Kevin joined Borussia Dortmund in 2009. This was a big step up to the Bundesliga, Germany's top football league. He scored his first goal for Dortmund in December 2009 in a 4–0 win.
The 2010–11 season was amazing for Kevin and Dortmund. He scored eight goals and helped set up seven others. Borussia Dortmund won the Bundesliga title that year! Kevin signed a new contract to stay with the club until 2014.
In January 2011, he had a fantastic game against Bayer Leverkusen. He scored two goals and assisted another, helping Dortmund win 3–1.

Dortmund continued to be very successful. In 2012, they won the Bundesliga again, and also the DFB-Pokal (German Cup). This was a "double" win, which means winning two major trophies in one season! Kevin also played in the 2013 DFL-Supercup, where Dortmund beat Bayern Munich 4–2 to win another trophy.
In the 2013–14 UEFA Champions League, Kevin scored an important winning goal against Marseille. This goal helped Dortmund move forward in the competition.
By 2015, Kevin played fewer games for the main team. He spent some time playing for Borussia Dortmund II, which is the reserve team.
Moving to Other Clubs
In September 2015, Kevin tried to move to Galatasaray in Turkey. However, there was a problem with the paperwork, and he couldn't play any games for them until January 2016.
In January 2016, Kevin returned to Germany and joined VfB Stuttgart. He played for them for about a year. In March 2017, his contract with Stuttgart ended after an off-field incident. Kevin said he "made a mistake" and needed a break from football.
A month later, he joined Darmstadt 98 in the 2. Bundesliga. After one season there, he moved to KFC Uerdingen 05 in 2018. He played for them for two seasons. In January 2021, Kevin announced he was stepping away from professional football.
However, he didn't stop playing entirely! Just a few days later, he joined TuS Bövinghausen, a club in a lower German league. In 2022, his team was promoted to a higher division, the Oberliga Westfalen.
Playing for Germany
Kevin Großkreutz made his first appearance for the German national team in May 2010. He played in a friendly match against Malta, which Germany won 3–0.
His biggest moment with the national team came in June 2014. He was chosen to be part of Germany's squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Even though he didn't play in any matches during the tournament, he was part of the team that won the World Cup! This was a huge achievement for him and his country. He played his last game for Germany later that summer.
