Khutzeymateen Provincial Park, also known as the Khutzeymateen/K'tzim-A-Deen Grizzly Sanctuary, is a very special protected area in British Columbia, Canada. It's located along the beautiful North Coast of the province. This park was created on August 15, 1994. Its main purpose is to protect an important home for the many grizzly bears that live in this region. The park is managed by BC Parks, which helps keep nature safe.

Where is Khutzeymateen Park?

Khutzeymateen Park is found in a scenic coastal area of northern British Columbia. It's about 37 kilometers (23 miles) northeast of a city called Prince Rupert. The park is located at the very end of a long, narrow body of water known as Khutzeymateen Inlet.

This park is part of the Kitimat Ranges mountain area. It shares borders with other protected lands. To the north is the Ksi X’anmaas Conservancy. To the west, you'll find the Khutzeymateen Inlet Conservancy. And to the south, it borders the Khyex Conservancy.

The park protects a large area of land, about 44,588 hectares (110,180 acres). It also includes 464 hectares (1,147 acres) of the foreshore. This is the part of the land that is covered by water at high tide and exposed at low tide. All of this land is part of the drainage basin of the Khutzeymateen River.

Visiting the Park and Activities

If you want to visit the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Sanctuary by boat, there's an important rule. All visitors must check in at the K’tzim-a-deen Ranger Station. This station is located right in the inlet.

Because this park is so important for the grizzly bears and their environment, activities are carefully controlled. You can take guided tours of the river estuary. An estuary is where a river meets the sea. You can also do some controlled wildlife viewing from your boat in the inlet.

It's very important to remember that going onto the land is strictly not allowed. This rule helps keep the grizzly bears safe and undisturbed in their natural home.
