How the Show Was Made
On November 11, 2010, Disney XD decided to create a new comedy series. It was first called Wasabi Warriors. The show was created by Jim O'Doherty. He had worked on other shows like Grounded for Life before.
Jim O'Doherty and Marc Warren were the main producers. Joey Scott also helped produce the show. The main actors chosen were Jason Earles, Leo Howard, Mateo Arias, Dylan Riley Snyder, Alex Christian Jones, and Olivia Holt.
Filming began in Hollywood in January 2011. The show was made by It's a Laugh Productions. On May 16, 2011, Disney XD announced the show's new name: Kickin' It. It premiered on June 13, 2011.
The Idea Behind the Show
The idea for Kickin' It came from Jim O'Doherty's own childhood. He grew up on Long Island, New York. He earned a green belt in martial arts when he was young.
However, his training stopped when his local dojo closed. It was turned into a vet clinic! This personal connection to martial arts, plus his daughters' interest in karate, inspired the show.
