Kidder Mountain is a cool mountain peak in south-central New Hampshire. It stands 1,805 feet (550 meters) tall. This mountain is part of the Wapack Range. You can find it between the towns of New Ipswich and Temple, New Hampshire.
Exploring Kidder Mountain
Kidder Mountain is a great spot for outdoor adventures. It's located just off the Wapack Trail. This trail is about 22 miles (35 kilometers) long. You can reach Kidder Mountain by taking a short side trail. This side trail is about 0.9 miles (1.4 kilometers) long.
Neighboring Peaks
If you look north along the Wapack ridgeline, you'll see Temple Mountain. To the south, you'll find Barrett Mountain. The top of Kidder Mountain is mostly open. It used to be old pastures. This means you get amazing views from the summit!
Where the Water Flows
Water from the east side of Kidder Mountain flows into the Souhegan River. From there, it joins the Merrimack River. Finally, it reaches the Atlantic Ocean. Water from the west side goes into the Gridley River. This river then flows into the Contoocook River. The Contoocook River also joins the Merrimack River.
Who Was Reuben Kidder?
The mountain is named after a person named Reuben Kidder. He was an important person from New Ipswich. He was a "provincial squire," which means he was a local leader. He represented the people who owned the land in the area.
