Kim Jin-kyu (born February 16, 1985) is a former professional football player from South Korea. He was known for being a strong defender who could also score goals!

Kim Jin-kyu's Club Career
Starting His Football Journey
Kim Jin-kyu started playing football in elementary school. His older brother inspired him to join the sport. After finishing high school, he went straight to the K League, which is South Korea's top football league. He didn't play for a university team first.
Playing for Jeonnam Dragons and Júbilo Iwata
Kim began his professional career with Jeonnam Dragons. He quickly made a name for himself. He even became the youngest player to score a goal for his team! In 2005, he moved to Japan to play for Júbilo Iwata.
Returning to South Korea
In January 2007, Kim Jin-kyu returned to Jeonnam Dragons. He had promised his coach, Huh Jung-moo, that he would come back. The coach had helped him a lot during a tough time.
Later that year, on July 25, 2007, Kim joined FC Seoul. He was part of the FC Seoul team that won the K League championship in 2010.
Playing in China and Another Return to Japan
In 2011, Kim moved to China to play for Dalian Shide. But after his Korean coach left the team, Kim didn't play as much. So, in July 2011, he was loaned to Ventforet Kofu, a team in Japan. He played four games there before returning to FC Seoul.
Later Career Moves
In 2016, Kim Jin-kyu went to Thailand. He played for Pattaya United on loan from Muangthong United. He also played for Fagiano Okayama in Japan and Daejeon Citizen in South Korea before he retired.
Kim Jin-kyu's International Career
Playing for South Korea
Kim Jin-kyu also played for the South Korean national team. He became well-known during the 2005 East Asian Football Championship. In a match against China, the Chinese coach wanted to win badly. China scored first, but Kim scored an equalizer (a goal that makes the score tied) to help South Korea avoid a loss.
World Cup and Olympics
In 2006, Kim was chosen to play for South Korea in the FIFA World Cup. However, his performance in a game against Switzerland was not as good as expected.
He was also made captain of the Korean national football team for the 2008 Summer Olympics. After becoming captain, he decided not to take free kicks during the tournament.
