Kim Suk-soo (Hangul: 김석수; born November 20, 1932) is a South Korean politician and lawyer. He served as the Prime Minister of South Korea from 2002 to 2003. He worked under President Kim Dae-jung during his time as Prime Minister.

Kim Suk-soo's Early Life and Education
Kim Suk-soo was born on November 20, 1932. He finished high school at Paichai High SchoolYonsei University. He earned his bachelor's degree in law from Yonsei University in 1956.

Before becoming Prime Minister, Kim Suk-soo had an important career in law. He worked as a judge on the Supreme Court. This is the highest court in South Korea. He also led the National Election Commission. This group makes sure elections are fair and run smoothly.
Becoming the Prime Minister of South Korea
On September 10, 2002, President Kim Dae-jung chose Kim Suk-soo to be the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is a very important leader in the government. Kim Suk-soo was the third person President Kim Dae-jung nominated for the job. The parliament, which is like a country's main law-making body, had rejected the previous two choices.
Confirmation as Prime Minister
For Kim Suk-soo to become Prime Minister, the parliament had to agree. On October 5, 2002, they voted to confirm him. A large majority, 210 members, voted yes, while 31 voted no. He officially became the Prime Minister after this vote. He served in this role until February 26, 2003. The new President, Roh Moo-hyun, then chose Goh Kun to take his place.
Later Career and Contributions
After his time as Prime Minister, Kim Suk-soo continued to contribute to society. On April 25, 2013, he was chosen to be the head director of Yonsei University. This is the same university where he studied law many years ago. He took on this leadership role after the previous chairman resigned.
