A Look Back: Kimballton's History
Kimballton started in 1883. That year, Hans Jensen Jorgensen opened a post office in the area. The town was officially set up in 1888. Later, in 1908, it became an incorporated city. Kimballton got its name from Edward Kimball, who worked for the railroad.
There are eight places in or near Kimballton that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are important sites that have been kept safe because of their history.
Jan Jensen, who later became a head coach for Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball, grew up in Kimballton.

Kimballton is about 3 miles (5 km) north of Elk Horn. It is also about 13 miles (21 km) east of Harlan. If you travel about 60 miles (95 km) east, you will reach Omaha.
