Kimberlee Green OAM (born 5 March 1986) is an Australian former international netball player. She was the captain of the Giants Netball team. Kimberlee also played for the Australian national netball team, known as the Diamonds, in 74 games.

Netball Journey

Kimberlee Green played netball for six years in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy league. During this time, she was part of the Sydney Swifts and AIS Canberra Darters teams.

Starting the ANZ Championship

When the ANZ Championship began, Kimberlee joined the New South Wales Swifts. Her team won the very first championship in 2008. Later that year, she was chosen to play for the Australian Netball Diamonds.

Playing for Australia

During her time with the Australian team, Kimberlee won several medals:

  • A bronze medal at the 2009 World Netball Series in Manchester.
  • A silver medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
  • A gold medal at the 2011 World Netball Championships in Singapore.
  • A gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

In 2011, Kimberlee played in a new position for Australia, Wing Defence (WD). This happened during a series of three games against Jamaica. In 2014, she was part of the Australian team that won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She also became captain of the NSW Swifts in the 2014 season.

After the 2015 Netball World Cup, where she won another gold medal with Australia, Kimberlee announced she was retiring from international netball.

Giants Netball and Retirement

In 2017, Kimberlee became the first-ever captain of the Giants Netball team. She had a serious knee injury (ACL) during a game in Canberra that year, which meant she couldn't play for the rest of the season. She came back in the 2018 season and led the Giants to the preliminary final. On 22 August 2019, Kimberlee Green announced she was retiring from professional netball.

In 2021, Kimberlee became the head coach for the Opens team at North Shore United in the NSW Premier League.

Achievements and Awards

Kimberlee Green received many awards and recognitions throughout her career:

  • 2022 Australia Day Honours: She received the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
  • 2014 ANZ Championship joint-MVP: This means she was named one of the most valuable players in the league.
  • 2014 FOXTEL ANZ Championship All-Star Team (WA): She was chosen as one of the best players in her position.
  • 2013–2014 QBE NSW Swifts Most Valued Player: Her team recognized her as their most valuable player.
  • 2011–2014 NSW Swifts' Members' Player of the Year: Fans and members of the Swifts team voted her as their favorite player.
  • 2010 NSW Swifts' Players' Player: Her teammates voted her as their best player.

Personal Life

Kimberlee Green comes from a family of athletes. Her mother, Denise Langford, was an Olympic and Commonwealth Games swimmer. Her father, Michael Green, was a rugby league player for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Kimberlee is married to New South Wales Blues cricketer Trent Copeland.
